Unemployed Job Seekers Can Do This To Find Your Next Job Quickly

About 10% of unemployed job seekers get lucky and find their next job within 30 days.

About 20% find a job in a few months because they found someone in their network who had a need for their individual skills.

About 70% of job seekers struggle, and about half of those who struggle become long term unemployed job seekers.

So what can you do to find your next job quickly? You can do these three things:

  1. Create The First Impression Of Being A Top Candidate: In your resumes and interviews, communicate "I have what you need", instead of what most job seekers communicate in their first impression ("I have a lot of stuff ... do you need any of it?")
  2. Focus On Impact, Instead Of Responsibilities, Experience, Qualifications, And Skills: To overcome the risk unemployed candidates present employers (yes, even you present risks if you're unemployed), overwhelm your readers with your impact in your resume and during interviews, to prove your success. When you describe your responsibilities, experience, qualifications and skills you present yourself as qualified (see below) and force your reader to guess if you were a success or failure, which increases your risk as a potential new hire.
  3. Have A Higher Goal Than Being Qualified: In 2024, you're competing against many other qualified candidates and most of them are currently employed, while you're not. When there are many qualified candidates competing, being qualified makes you average, not special. Presenting yourself as average and risky doesn't give hiring managers a reason to hire you. To beat unemployment quickly, you need a higher goal than being qualified - Instead your goal is to create need.

Every long term unemployed job seeker I've spoken to in my coaching and recruiting career does the same things that dooms them to a long, frustrating, expensive search. They apply to a high number of jobs on job boards and company websites, apply with an average resume, give average interviews, and hope they get lucky.

Why make the same mistakes, when you can learn how to beat unemployment so quickly, you could find your next job by year-end 2024?
