UNDO Impact Update | October
Field Notes: Deploying Microsoft MRV
Our teams in Canada and the UK have been working at pace to set up advanced monitoring sites, split field monitoring sites and small plot monitoring sites in alignment with our recently announced deal with 微软 , and we are thrilled to share that this baseline objective is now complete!
In total, 40 sites have been established and are now incorporated into our scientific, technological and operational platform. Furthermore, the field teams have collected baseline samples from each site, fighting through inclement weather whilst doing so.
Meanwhile, UNDO’s Senior Researcher Amanda Stubbs and Research Lead Anezka Radkova spent a few days at our trial site in Dumyat, Scotland collecting and deconstructing the Stripe -sponsored mesocosm experiments that have been running for the last year. All 36 cores were carefully removed from the site and transported to our labs where they were cut in five-centimetre intervals down to 30 centimetres. The cores will soon be dried and archived for future analysis to study the impact of various soil types on weathering rates.
Behind the Scenes with BBC Scotland
We welcomed BBC Scotland to one of our partner farms near Edinburgh to showcase our solution.
This scenic Forthside location made for a great backdrop to talk about ERW, with fossil-fueled Grangemouth power station visible on the other side of the waterway. Our Director of Science and Research, Dr XinRan Liu , gave an interview on how the crushed basalt we are spreading provides nutrients to soils and also benefits the planet by capturing atmospheric carbon dioxide. Our partner farmer, Ryan Nelson, who makes ice cream on his dairy farm, also spoke to the film crew about the benefits he’s expecting to see. We are lucky to be able to collaborate with farming communities and are grateful for the role they are playing in advancing our carbon dioxide removal solution.

DID YOU KNOW? Many UNDOers are farmers first and spread their own land with our carbon-capturing silicate rock.
UNDO at Climate Week NYC
Across the pond, our CEO and Founder Jim Mann joined a panel discussion alongside three fellow XPRIZE Carbon Removal finalists at Climate Week NYC.
The panel, part of the Carbon Smart Summit by Flowcarbon , shared insights on scaling carbon removal projects with XPRIZE and beyond. It focused on what project developers are doing to access finance, adhere to scientific rigour and engender trust among the communities hosting operations. As we enter the final six months of the XPRIZE competition, UNDO is excited to share how it is building out its gigatonne-scale vision.?
