UNDO Impact Update | June
UNDO Turns Two
UNDO celebrated its second birthday on June 6th!
As we celebrate this milestone, we are taking a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come since our ‘One Tonne Trial’ funded by Stripe in September 2021 on land managed by The Future Forest Company on the Isle of Mull. We measured out our basalt with travel scales and spread it with a simple pull-behind (see image above). It was one of the world’s first large-scale feasibility field trials to test basalt-based ERW as a carbon removal technology.
We’ve since made lightyears of progress across all verticals of the business: spreading almost 200,000 tonnes across three continents, testing and refining our MRV approach to regularly redefine what the ‘best available science’ is and building out software and hardware solutions so we can enable our removal solution to scale worldwide. This incredible progress would not have been possible without our dedicated team, partners and supportive community. Thank you and here’s to the next two years!
Field Notes: Hosting XPRIZE
As Scottish summer begins to set in, we have enjoyed hosting multiple site visits at our UK operational base near Stirling.
The XPRIZE team (pictured above) kicked off with a trip to look under the bonnet of UNDO's operations as part of the judging for the $100 million carbon removal competition put on by the Musk Foundation. We hosted a quarry visit, a spreading event and a run-through of our MRV and lab setup and then held classroom sessions to pore over UNDO's approach to data collection, MRV and wider approach to verification.
Ramping Up Our Canadian Operations

As UNDO’s international footprint expands, we are continuing to build out our North American ERW operations with our Canadian feedstock partner, Canadian Wollastonite.
Canada is steadily becoming a hub for forward-thinking carbon dioxide removal companies, housing more than 70 across the country already. The country has ambitious net zero goals, a price on carbon, earmarked funding for carbon removal and the natural resources to sequester gigatonnes of carbon. With access to 17 million tonnes of high-quality wollastonite, we are ready to implement large-scale carbon removal there alongside academic and operational partners.

By exploring these benefits, you support Canada’s journey to become a global leader in carbon removal.
Understanding High-Quality Carbon Markets And How to Use Them
In our latest blog, we delve deep into carbon markets, their history and how to benefit from them as a climate-forward business.
Carbon markets are more than financial tools; they are catalysts for substantial climate action. These markets can direct crucial investments toward technologies and projects that are desperately needed to combat climate change. However, their effectiveness depends on a nuanced understanding and application of carbon credits. They should not be seen merely as offsets but as strategic investments aimed at specific outcomes such as emission reductions, ecosystem protection and carbon removal.
