Underwater Photogrammetry & Virtual Reconstruction

This is the Betty Bomber, a plane wreck in Chuuk (Truk) Lagoon from World War II.

We took ~500 photos of it last year to build a photogrammetry model and have since processed it into the video above. The wreck is a very interesting one with plenty of subtleties that are not noticed at first. The ongoing project will continue to explore these, including some analysis of how the plane crashed (there are multiple opinions on this and the model can be used to illustrate and potentially clarify the mystery).

I'm going back there this month to gather new footage in high res to add more detail to the model to enable some mixed media production. Also planning on putting a lower res version in to VR, AR - watch this space.
