How does that plastic taste? “This is a concern of epic proportions, especially because we know so little about micronanoplastics’ impact on our health,” said Philip Demokritou, the Henry Rutgers Chair and Professor of Nanoscience and Environmental Bioengineering at Rutgers Health and principal investigator of the project. The byproduct of environmental and industrial processes, micro- and nano-scale plastic particles and fibers increasingly contaminate the environment. These plastics are now found in our food, air and water. So, in light of this rising concern, it is fantastic new that Rutgers received a $3.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the impact of micronanoplastics on the digestive system. cc: Rutgers Research, Rutgers University, Rutgers Health

A major breakthrough in pain management? Rutgers researchers have found a new way to manage the receptors that control the sense of touch, which could lead to treating chronic pain more effectively. The HELIX?is rising due to the efforts of thousands of people. This week is National Construction Appreciation Week, which commenced on Monday, September 16th. This often overlooked annual 5-day tribute focuses on celebrating the (more than) 11 million hardworking humans who contribute to the development of America’s infrastructure and facilities.

This, here, is the final steel beam. On Friday, Sepember 6th, it was signed by hundreds of people, hoisted 250 feet into the air, and placed atop H-1 at HELIX NJ. The "topping off" marks the completion of a major phase in the construction of the 12-story, 574,000 square foot building, which is the first of three buildings to be built at The HELIX. For those unfamiliar with this celebratory moment, a “topping off” ceremony is a custom dating back to ancient Scandinavian culture, to recognize a significant milestone during the construction of a new building.
