Understanding the Process of Screening Process of Job Candidates

The job screening process is an essential part of hiring and recruitment. The process of hiring remains incomplete if a screening process is not given any kind of importance.

Of late, organizations are realizing the importance of background screening and resorting to the same a little too often. Job applicants need to learn how the new job application and interview process works in order to seek work effectively.

Background

The job screening process usually involved a predictable process in the past. Job applicants responded to newspaper ad and applied for jobs. They sent in printed resumes and cover letters to the organizations and waited for them to respond. There used to be a personnel department instead of today’s refurbished HR department and they took care of such activities—involving hiring and recruiting. It might come as a surprise but candidate screening process was not paid much heed and people depended on their gut feelings in terms of candidate selection.

Later on, candidate search was transferred to online job postings when the World Wide Web went live. And now with the advent of social media the job screening process has undergone several changes in the present times.

Modern Times

Employers now post jobs on online job portals and sometime on special interest websites. These days since HR technology has forayed into the domain of recruiting and hiring, some employers have reduced the size of their HR department, leaving the initial resume search to applicant tracking systems.

Needless to say that, social media also has a major role to play in the screening process. Recruiters these days’ end up screening candidates through the several social channels that they are a part of. Yes. Indeed, it is a way to screen candidates in present times through their online presence.

Now since the job screening process has undergone a metamorphoses, job hunters have also changed the screening process. These days’ job hunters often end up using the Internet in order to search candidates and also assess their past performances through the existing social channels. Assessing online behaviour has become of relevance in today’s time and job screening process has gained a new height.

Job applicants often review their Facebook, Twitter and other social channels in order to weed out material that may damage their job search functions.

Needless to say that, the online world has already given a completely new dimension to the world of job screening process and thus also enable a proper screening of candidates.
