"Understanding Plywood Grades: A Beginner's Guide"

Plywood selection is a crucial step in woodworking and construction. Sharing a concise overview of three pivotal plywood grades:

Boiling Waterproof/Marine-grade Plywood:

This grade of Plywood is also known by many other names, such as IS 710, BMP Plywood, Marine plywood, and PF grade (phenol-formaldehyde) Plywood. It can endure being submerged in water for 72 hours without damage. This makes it ideal for long-lasting woodwork, as it demonstrates high durability and screw-holding strength.

Commercial Plywood/MR Grade:?

Commercial Plywood, classified as Moisture-Resistant (MR) grade, offers a versatile solution for moderate applications. It can be immersed in room-temperature water for 8 hours without spoiling. While it may have a lower bonding strength than BWP grade, this grade of material has a lower screw-holding strength and is better suited to low moisture, dry climate areas, or commercial spaces.

Fire-Retardant Plywood:

This Plywood is known for its fire-resistance properties. This? Plywood has a slower burn rate. Treated with various chemicals to achieve this phenomenon, Fire Retardant Plywood will provide precious minutes to escape a fire before burning down. For example, this Plywood takes approximately 30-35 minutes to catch fire and 20 minutes to burn. This is an ideal Plywood option if you want something that does not catch fire easily.
