Understanding the learning process to improve learning
I have long been interested in learning theory. I recently consolidated what I know into a book chapter, but that chapter is also distributed for free. Why? Because it is important for both instructors and students to understand the learning process.
For instructors: to convey information in a manner conducive to learning and to challenge students to become more independent learners.
For students: to understand why an an instructor is using different instructional strategies, to understand that they themselves will progress as a learner (passive → active → engaged → self-directed), and to learn strategies on how to best learn.
