Understanding & Knowing Your Why

Understanding & Knowing Your Why

Your Why allows you to feel comfortable in who you are, and be deliberate about building a circle of support. The most important circle is your inner circle. The relationships you build around yourself and the decisions you make will aid you in accomplishing your goals.?

The number one thing I like to say is, "Don't hold yourself back."

As you journey in life it is also important to keep in tune with your Why. As leaders, it's not the title or the job description that are important. It's the answers to the “Why” questions that count.?

“Why do I want to do _______? Why do I want to say ________?”

Your Why allows you to feel comfortable in who you are and helps you to be deliberate about building a circle of support. The most important circle is your inner circle. The relationships you build around yourself and the decisions you make, will aid you in accomplishing your goals.?

The number one thing I like to say is, "Don't hold yourself back."

It's important to ask why you are aspiring, for example, to be on the corporate ladder. Is it for more money? Is it to lead change? Is it to be the leader you never had??

I believe everyone needs a strong Why in order to achieve lasting success.?

This involves keeping your ?????????????? ???????? ???????? ??????????????????.?

Do you remember the 3-year-old stage? The “Why” stage? “Why is this blue? Why is that red? Why are we going out? Why are we going in?”?

Unfortunately in the past, children were seen as being too forward or even rude if they asked Why. I'm glad that the world has evolved a lot since I was a child. Now children are encouraged to speak up and be themselves.?

Your Why is what allows you to define your purpose and your dreams. It allows you to see what you want to achieve in life and it’s also what makes you stand out. Your Why is what gives you the strength to deal with adversities and then get back on track.?

Your Why is also what gives you the courage to seize opportunities and be willing to do the task that nobody else wants to do. This was the case for me in some situations.

When I see an opportunity I always ask myself, "How does this tie in with my goals and my dreams? What skills can I get from it?” Knowing those answers, I'm not afraid to put my hand up.?

Knowing your Why allows you to stand out and stand up for what you believe. It helps you see what is required to get you to your goals and dreams. Your Why helps you to prioritize.

Defining My Why

I studied engineering because I wanted a career that I would enjoy. When I joined bp, I knew I could do several roles there without changing companies. That was very important to me. I asked myself, "Why am I joining this company?” I saw opportunities. I saw that I could do more. I also saw various ways that I could help others achieve their own version of success.?

It is very important that you define your Why so you can stay close to the core of who you are, this is what will enable you to face whatever challenges are thrown your way.?

Time & Your Why

I am a strong advocate of prioritization and ?? ?????????? ???????? ???? ?? ????????????????. I believe time spent is never gotten back. Therefore, time is an investment. So having my Why figured out helps me to prioritize what is important to me.?

Knowing my Why keeps me from becoming distracted and helps me to easily choose where to invest my time.?

What I Can Control & My Why

I tend to focus on what I can control. When something is out of my control, especially if it might negatively impact me over a very short space of time, knowing my Why helps me get out of that position or pick myself up if I have fallen.?

My Why also helps me to stay authentic. Nobody wants to be around someone who is attempting to give off a different impression from who they really are at their core being.?

Your Why helps you to bring yourself to whatever situation you find yourself in. It makes you comfortable and gives you the confidence you need. It also helps you to be flexible and resilient.?

When you are faced with adversity and challenges at home or at work, your Why gives you the strength to persevere. Your Why also helps you to stay grounded, even when you can't see a way out.?

Define your Why so you can live unapologetically.

"Don't hold YOURSELF back"; very powerful statement! More like don't hold your inner self back, don't hold the unique and authentic you back; step out and let your why-light shine; the world needs it. Thank you for sharing Lydia Balogun-Wilson, very profound article.
