Understanding the Essence of Business

A few months ago, I went to deliver some products to a friend and we got talking. Our discussion moved from one area of life to another; family, business, career and the state of the nation. 

While discussing business, particularly the kind of business she wanted to venture into, she noted that she never wanted to rush and was praying for God’s leading and direction. I was impressed and gave her the necessary encouragement- the fact that she acknowledged the place and importance of God’s leading really got me.

Many people venture into business without doing the home-work required. Business is more than making money- it is an opportunity to meet people’s needs. Business is more than providing services, it is about solving problems. Business is more than buying and selling, it is about exchanging value. Business is ensuring that you are adding value to people. That is the essence of doing business. 

While making money is very important, especially to avoid frustration. One must not get carried away by the desire to make money alone. Business is not an end. It is a means to an end. Sometimes, a particular business is meant to help you connect with certain people- meet your spouse, destiny helpers and position you for some future purpose. Which explains why you need God’s guidance. 

I am glad that my friend has started her business, and today she is doing well. She shared her experience with me recently and I am so happy for her. Her testimony further affirms that when we allow God to lead us, we can’t fail. Even when we face challenges, He will always come through for us. 

Dear friend, things are hard already. Don’t get things more complicated. Seek for God’s direction, He is interested in your welfare more than you. Have a great week!
