Understanding different Warehouse Tasks for optimal operations in SAP EWM

In the dynamic realm of EWM, the efficiency of product movements plays a pivotal role in warehouse operations.

Let's explore two crucial elements that allow flexibility in warehouse operations:

  1. Product warehouse tasks (Product WT)
  2. Handling Unit warehouse task (HU WT).

1. Product WT

  • This document aids EWM in moving products, encompassing both physical goods movements and changes in stock.
  • Contains all necessary information for executing the physical transfer of products within, into, or out of the warehouse, involving movement between storage bins.

Deconsolidation is an example of a product WT

  • When the planned quantity doesn't match the actual quantity moved, EWM addresses the difference, recording and managing it through a designated "difference interface."

/SCWM/ADPROD - Create warehouse task without reference to move product

  • A product WT holds crucial information, detailing what, how much, and where goods should move.
  • Product WT sets aside quantities, making them unavailable for other tasks.
  • For stock operations like goods receipt, goods issue, or transfer postings, the product WT efficiently manages stock changes.

/SCWM/POST - Make Posting Change for Product

2. HU WT

  • Supports EWM in HU movements, primarily focusing on the transfer of HU's within the warehouse.
  • Holds all needed info for moving HU's within the warehouse, including exceptions for complex loading and unloading processes.

Unloading is an example of a HU WT

  • Confirming a HU WT signals task completion and goods' arrival, and post-confirmation, it serves to document movements in the warehouse.

/SCWM/ADHU - Create warehouse task without reference to move Handling Unit

  • Every HU WT contains information for executing a goods movement, outlining specifics such as the HU, the source storage bin, and the destination storage bin.
  • The HU WT always incorporates a structured item highlighting the source and destination bins for the HU.
  • Importantly, HU WT maintains flexibility by not reserving quantities.
