The Understanding of Corporate Wellness & Organizational Transformation
What is Corporate Wellness? Is it about gym membership or the weekly Yoga and Pilates? Is it about a one time off nutritional seminar or an annual team building?
Take a moment and ask yourself. Some might have the answer, some don’t. Some might know what it really means and some are still confused and clueless.
I have personally had meetings with different companies / organizations for the past years and most of them said that the team and organization usually have plans in place already which often turn out to be gym membership, massage, annual team building, all those activities that you probably know of and have tried to implement in the organization for ages. The question I always asked them afterward was; did it work? If so, how? And if not, then why? Do you measure the results? ROI? Anything?. There are questions just to trigger to get them thinking about what they are doing and whether it’s been effective or not.
Clearly, These are not really the solutions but it could be a small part of the solution. And even if they were, your employees would have been great and happy with high engagement instead of an increasing number of turnover, reduction of productivity and engagement, pain and stress and many more you can name it. This is not so shocking because it has happened over and over again and it feels like you are moving in a circle.
To find an effective solution, you will have to see what the pain points are. Each organization has different objectives, the way of works and cultures. You would want to get feedback from your employees because they are your people. You want to know what’s going on, you want to care for them and treat them like your family so ask, sit down with a friendly conversation while still have boundaries of being a senior or seek for outsources to do it as an outsider so your employees can be honest and open enough for you to gather all the needed information and feedback.
Pain points can be many things from lack of communications, poor management, health issues, high turnover, ergonomic, organizational culture, and more.
I can tell you that more than 70% of surveys we have done, One of the top three was relating to health and ergonomic issues. Your well-being of your employee is very crucial. Pain that they have can lead to stress, working less productively, being stuck and unresourceful, poor in time management, and creating unfinished work or even without quality.
Your employees are the drive of the company and nothing matters more than being healthy both physically and mentally.
We want to make our people happy, we want them to stay with us, we want them to work and create amazing jobs so that the company or organization can move forward strongly in the right direction with the right people and the right mindset. So find your pain points, create a strategy that would work effectively based on their needs, not what you think they need. Implement for all including leaders, influence and lead by examples and you will be able to see whether it’s improving or not and then you can tweak things up a little bit if needed.
Once you receive feedback. You will be able to analyze the next move. This will slowly be a part of creating a culture within your organization so you have things in place that can continue and aim to implement for a long run.
Now, Wellness is everything including well-being. When I say everything, it includes people, culture, organization, engagement, productivity, leadership, just to name a few and the list goes on which at the end of the day, the most important key point is happiness. Happiness in the workplace, happiness for your employees, these are the areas that you will need to focus on, create a plan strategically, implement effectively and track results efficiently.
