Understanding Color
When printing-light passes through transparent inks of 3 subtractive primary colors-C,M,Y-striking white paper. reflecting back to eye through colored ink film.
Each affects outcome:
Cyan absorbs red-reflects/transmits blue/green light,
Magenta absorbs green-reflects red/blue light,
Yellow absorbs blue-reflects red/green light,
Black added to enhance depth/extend tonal range of colors.
Conventional 4cp can reproduce approximately 100,000 distinct shades,
Human eye can see 1mm-10mm.

An Additional NOTE: the picture above shows another very important thing to keep in mind; the specific paper / substrate you chose to print on can greatly affect all colors you print with. Even CMYK, but most definitely PMS. The same PMS Red was used on all of the different papers within this promo piece to show just that.
So, the next time you're on press with family member pieces, make sure all is on the same brand of stock, There will be differences between cover and text weights as well. Even is the same brand.
