Understanding ChatGPT is simply not enough...

I often emphasize the importance of understanding the capabilities of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools, but it's equally crucial to know how to leverage these tools effectively as well as understand what other tools exist, AI or not, to help you be more efficient. Workflow automation tools, design tools, photo/video/audio editing, etc... This is akin to knowing how to drive only one type of vehicle; while useful, it limits your ability to tackle tasks that require different kinds of vehicles. For instance, driving a sports car up a rugged mountain pass is far from ideal. Similarly, having a broad understanding of various tools, such as tractors, four-wheelers, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles, can be a significant advantage. It's about knowing which tool is right for the job, and when and how to combine them to be the most efficient possible!

This analogy illustrates why I stress the importance of not just understanding how to utilize ChatGPT and creating POWERD prompts to get great results, but also recognizing when and how AI, along with other tools, can aid in completing tasks more effectively. Only using ChatGPT, no matter how great your POWERD prompts are, will only do so much... We can talk Large Action Models at another time as it is an interesting development! :)

Let me give you a real life work example as to how understanding AI and other tools, AI or not, will help accomplish tasks. Today I encountered a task that perfectly illustrates this point. I needed to translate a training video I had produced in English, to Portuguese. The process involved several steps and tools, highlighting the value of understanding and utilizing different technologies to achieve my goal efficiently.

The first step was converting the video into a transcript, which I hadn't done previously. I discovered Happy Scribe, an AI-powered tool that provided a transcription with impressive accuracy—over 90%, despite minor errors with homophones. This minor hiccup underscored the need to review and adjust the transcript manually. But the time saved was still significant. It took less than 1 minute to get the transcript from www.happyscribe.com after uploading the mp4 file. It would have taken no less than 3-5x that to listen to it over and over and type it out.

With the transcript in hand, I segmented it to match the original English video's structure. Then, using ChatGPT, and a POWERD prompt I built using The POWERD Prompt Method found at www.BrianPicard.com, I translated the text into Portuguese, ensuring the translation maintained the original's conversational tone and accuracy. This step was both quick and efficient. The prompt I used was as follows:

ACT AS an expert in translating English into Portuguese and PROVIDE ME a transcript in Portuguese FOR working professionals. KEEP IT conversational but accurate to the transcript I provide. Meaning do not change the intent of the material, just translate from English to Portuguese.

I did it in sections, so after it did one section, I copied and pasted in the next section with a REWRITE prompt like: Now do the same for this content: <pasted content here>

Next, I used Canva, www.canva.com, incorporating the Murf AI plugin, to generate the Portuguese voiceover. Murf AI offers a variety of voices and languages, allowing me to select a voice that matched my preferences and adjust the speech speed and pitch accordingly. After pasting the new transcript, generating the audio, and aligning it with the video sections, the process took just an additional 10 minutes.

In less than half an hour, including the time to identify and learn to use the necessary tools, I successfully translated a two-minute English video into Portuguese. This experience not only saved time but also improved my workflow for future projects. I plan to include scripts directly in the presentation slides' notes section moving forward, streamlining the translation process for other languages.

This journey through various processes and tools highlights the importance of understanding AI capabilities and integrating other technologies for efficient task completion. While you may not achieve maximum efficiency on your first attempt, exploring different options and thoughtfully considering each step can lead to significant improvements and efficiencies in the long run. This broader understanding of AI and tool integration is what I aim to impart, helping others navigate their tasks with greater insight and effectiveness.
