What I love more than anything about Thanksgiving is that it is an official holiday to remind us to be grateful. At least that's what it is intended to be about...
That was before the focus shifted to Black Friday, where it is all about consumption.
Too often we rush through things because we're trying to get to the finish line. If you're so focused on purchasing all your Christmas gifts today, you're short changing yourself from this moment where you're off from work, maybe on vacation or with family, and have a chance to reflect on what truly matters.
Sometimes, it's hard to feel grateful when there is chaos around. Like when I'm on vacation in a beautiful location with my loved ones and my kids are fighting. I get frustrated that they aren't more grateful.
The challenge, I find, is to find something to feel grateful for no matter how challenging your circumstances are.
In Man's Search For Meaning , Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl had a lot to feel resentful about. His life was destroyed as he and his wife were taken away from their home and put in a concentration camp. They were then separated and he never saw his pregnant wife again.
Despite all the hardships, Frankl forced himself to look for the silver lining. He would find it in a friendly dialogue with another inmate, in the crumb of bread an officer would give him, in the thought of being alive one more day.
This is an extreme situation, but that idea here is that if Viktor could find something so little to be grateful for amidst such tragedy, don't we have a lot to be thankful for? I know I do.
Life isn't always going to go the way you want it to. It's not going to be easy. But no matter where you find yourself, you have blessings.
What are you focused on?

Over the past 11 months, I have interviewed numerous guests for the?Decode Your Burnout ?podcast. You may have listened in on these conversations, but their essence bares repeating. Given the scope of this project, I put together a six-part series, the first of which is about understanding the phenomenon known as “burnout.”?
Our journey through the realm of burnout began with a simple question: What exactly is burnout, and how does it differ from other forms of mental and emotional fatigue? As we listened to the profound insights shared by our esteemed guests, we discovered that burnout is not just a personal crisis but a societal one, calling for a deeper understanding and more nuanced conversation.
Each episode has been a piece of the puzzle, contributing to a comprehensive picture of burnout. Our panels on absenteeism, productivity, and morale offered real-life anecdotes and strategies to combat the silent epidemic that burnout has become in the workplace.
As we peel back the layers of burnout in this series, we will illuminate the signs that often go unnoticed, the prevention strategies that can be life-changing, and the recovery paths that lead to renewed passion and purpose.
Whether you’re a long-time listener or new to our community, this series is your invitation to revisit these powerful episodes. Let them be your guide as you navigate the challenges of burnout, armed with the knowledge and tools to not only survive but thrive.

Sometimes we feel like we have to choose between being happy and being profitable. In this week's episode of the Decode Your Burnout podcast, I interview Pele Ugboajah, Ph.D. He introduces us to the "Golden Goose Perspective," emphasizing the pivotal role of emotional intelligence in leadership and its ripple effects throughout an organization.
Dr. Pelè also distinguishes between the fleeting pleasures of hedonic happiness and the deeper, purpose-driven eudaemonic happiness, highlighting the significance of a company's culture in fostering the latter.

When you hear people like me saying, "You should be grateful," do you roll your eyes? Do you believe it's over-simplistic? Maybe too optimistic when there's really hardships in your life??
I get it.
But here's the catch.
I'm not saying you need to be grateful because your life is amazing. I'm saying to be grateful even when it's not. There is science behind this.
Christina Costa knows the power of gratitude. She shares how being diagnosed with a brain tumor was precisely what she needed to put her knowledge of positive psychology into practice. It wasn't easy, but the practice of gratitude rewired her brain.?
If you're struggling, you need this message. Christina's TEDx talk is a great reminder to kiss your brain, no matter what.?
