Underdog BlackBerry launches 'Bold' in 2024 Super Bowl ad: THINK DIFFERENT
We live in an age where everything seems to be experienced virtually through apps and only two phone operating systems hold consumers in an unbreakable stronghold. This might all be about to change: niche underdog BlackBerry made quite an impression last night at the superbowl with a groundbreaking ad for their new 'Bold' model smartphone.
Parading a screen smaller than a vaping stick, only 256Mb of memory and a remarkable physical keyboard, BlackBerry's call-to-action to "Think Different" is certainly delivered on. In a thrilling TV ad aired during one of the 63 commercial breaks last night, the aptly named 'Bold' was shown alongside shots of inspirational world leaders like Ern? Rubik, Eddy Grant and Keanu Reeves.
Pundits on all social plaforms praise the ad's distinct cinematic feel, standing out from the typical smartphone commercials that merely flash animated screens for AI-assisted food ordering.
The morning after we catch up with Tarsha, an elated lead developer dialling in via their so-called BBM app, from Canada. "Well how aboat that for a launch eh? Toronno is back on the map in North America!", he cries out in low-resolution. While we try to adjust our video settings, he continues "So much computing bandwidth is lost on useless smartphone functionality. Did you know that a 2024 smartphone uses more power for decyphering one Siri command than all speed skating race timers at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics? Such a waste! We use processor capacity only where it's needed. For example, our moosic library can hold only 5 albums simultaneously BUT we hard-baked Nirvana's Nevermind and Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger in 10-bit vinyl quality in EEPROM so you have every track you need already packed. And where other smartphone makers choose to remove the 1/8" audio jack entirely, we go the other way and offer a 1/4" phat jack as standard. What's more, no USB-C charging cable nonsense for us! Our Bold runs for 72 hours on only 6 removable AA Duracells."
Later Tarsha shows us how the new Bold can be used to hammer a 5-inch nail into a solid oak plank, and keep an emergency igloo warm in a blizzard. We can only agree this is 'thinking different' delivered to perfection!
