Anxiety at work can be an unfamiliar, and overwhelming experience, affecting both our personal and professional lives, and it is worth mentioning for those who are feeling this, that it is much more common that we might think.
It can manifest in various ways, such as feeling excessively nervous, avoiding work, struggling to concentrate, racing thoughts, lack of structure, or experiencing physical symptoms such as shortness of breath, a racing heartbeat, or even panic attacks.
There are a lot of factors that can contribute to anxiety at work in our industry, especially in todays world of over stimulation, expectation, pressure to perform, tight deadlines, conflicts with coworkers, or concerns about job security.
It's important to recognize that it's normal to feel anxious, tell yourself that you are feeling anxious (don't be in any denial), and know that it's possible to manage and reduce anxiety with the right strategies.
One effective way to manage anxiety is to practice relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation. Meditation doesn't need to be a buddhist retreat, but just taking 10 minutes in the morning to unwind the mind, and again in the afternoon can help hugely.
Taking breaks or a walk can also be helpful in reducing tension, and help process thoughts that are building and blocking your ability to focus. It's also important to set realistic goals and prioritize tasks, as well as communicate openly with coworkers and management about any current or pressing concerns or challenges. Get it off the chest.

I've always personally found having good structure and exercising every day (as a non negotiable) keeps any excess stress at bay, perhaps as it ensures I am putting myself first. Also, feeling fit and healthy helps me focus, eat the right food, and even sleep better too, which are all extremely helpful.
If anxiety at work is persistent and interfering with your ability to function, it may be helpful to seek support from a professional as they can help you identify the root caused of your anxiety and develop coping strategies to manage it more effectively.
These professionals are easy to access, and are also happy to work with you via online chat or text if that is a more comfortable approach.
There are organisations such as BEYOND BLUE, and MENSLINE, or PYNK HELP that are all highly recommended, and for the most part are free.
Remember that it's commendable to ask for help, and to take care of your mental health. By addressing anxiety at work, you can improve your overall well-being and performance, which has a perpetual impact on your life.
