Under the Covers of Scalability and Availability

Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) provides both scalability and availability without any changes to the application code. Lately lot of other solutions claim Oracle RAC like scalability and availability, however they fall far short as they lack the mature and sophisticated fault detection mechanisms present in Oracle RAC.

Fault detection is an important requirement for both HA and the ability to scale. Further, once the fault is detected, it needs to be resolved quickly before affecting user sessions. Oracle RAC along with its Family of Solutions work together cohesively to detect and resolve such conditions including cases like "Un-responsive Instances" and "Network faults" before such conditions cause downtime.
