Under Construction
Under Construction
Philippians 1:6 (NASB)
6 “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
George W. Bush wasn’t doing well as a young man. He was drinking heavily and was lost in life. One day he went for a walk with evangelist Billy Graham and asked if reading the Bible would make him a better person. “He told me about one of the Bible’s most fundamental lessons,” Bush recounted. “One should strive to be better, but we’re all sinners who earn God’s love not through our good deeds, but through His grace.”
Shortly afterward, Bush received a package from Graham—a copy of The Living Bible. “He had inscribed it and included a reference to Philippians 1:6: ‘And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.’'[1]
That began a dramatic change in Bush’s life. It does for all of us. We can never improve ourselves in any lasting, significant way without the grace of God. We need for Him to begin a good work in us, and then we need to remember that the One who started His work will finish it.
Be patient. God is not finished with you yet.
Billy Graham said, “Every human being is under construction from conception to death.”
