Uncovering talent with Tracy Moore

At Cummins Asia Pacific , we ensure our employees can bring their best ideas and self to work by supporting their passion and vision. This includes giving opportunities for our people to make a positive impact, whether it be through their work, community or internally.

Tracy Moore , Talent Acquisition Team Lead for Asia Pacific, shares why Cummins is her employer of choice.

An eye for potential

Tracy’s career in recruitment stretches back to over ten years ago when she stilled lived in Johannesburg, South Africa. Beginning in an unrelated role, she first realised her aptitude for recruitment during a training position where hiring talent was involved.

“I discovered that I like learning about people and was good at pinpointing who was going to perform well in an environment,” remarked Tracy.

“I would feel incredible pride when someone I hired would be successful – it gives me pleasure to witness it. That’s where I found a real passion and joy for discovering talent.”

Realising her passion was in talent acquisition, Tracy gained further experience in the field before her move to Melbourne in 2012, where she worked for?recruitment agencies.

In 2019, Tracy’s journey at Cummins began, joining as a contracted Talent Acquisition Partner. As part of the Asia Pacific team, she worked to promote job and career opportunities available across the region. Four years later, Cummins has welcomed Tracy as a permanent employee. As Talent Acquisition Team Lead, she continues to drive recruitment as a trusted human resources professional.

Most recently, Tracy has represented Cummins’ Early Careers Program & Apprentice Program at major careers expos and the 2023 Brisbane Truck Show.

The feeling of belonging

Having worked with many organisations, Tracy has experienced working in different company structures and cultures as a recruiter. According to her, one of the biggest surprises after joining Cummins was to see their values put into action.

“At Cummins, the values are absolutely lived and are tangible. They’re more than just words on a wall,” she said.

To Tracy, the value of caring in particular stood out to her the most. Despite joining Cummins at a time where remote work was prevalent, she was still able bond with her team, connect with her coworkers and feel supported.

“For me it was interesting that even though it’s such a large organisation, a Fortune 500 company no less, it has this feel of something smaller and close-knit – like a family,” she reflected.

“I just feel at home, like this is where I'm meant to be. I can’t imagine myself anywhere else.”

Aspiring to inspire

Although no longer operating in a training role, Tracy is still passionate when it comes to supporting and nurturing the potential in others. During her time in a contracted role, she volunteered to be a mentor with one of our partners at the Australian Network on Disability where she guided her mentee on skills such as building their own resume and navigating job interviews.

“I learnt so much through that program. My mentee was neurodivergent, and she taught me about what it is like to work with others from her perspective, and what’s needed to make the environment more inclusive for her. It definitely changed the way I engage with my coworkers especially in the office,” Tracy said.

“Till this day we still maintain a great connection. The experience really reinforced my genuine interest in people, and how much I like hearing and helping others.”

Since onboarding with Cummins permanently, Tracy has committed herself as a member of the Women’s Empowerment Network (WE Network) ERG.

On why she decided to join an ERG, Tracy points out the untapped talent pool that exists among the current employees and how she hopes to help educate everyone on different parts of the business.

“What makes Cummins a great place to work is that you have the option to build a career and make pivots when you’re ready for change. We have lots of amazing employees with potential, and the WE Network can provide the support and opportunity for individuals to explore it,” she said.

“I see the business’s belief in the talent we have. We hire to develop, so if you have an interest in another area the company will get you there. I’ve only ever worked in talent acquisition, but I like the idea that if I want to change my career path, I'll be supported through leadership and opportunities.”

“At Cummins, the values are absolutely lived and are tangible. They’re more than just words on a wall,”. I would have to agree - some commercial organisations espouse lofty values but the lived reality is very different. At Cummins however the corporate values are taken very seriously and the organisation really does strive to bring out the best in its people.
