In his insightful post, Allan Bird expresses concern over the outrageous projected cost of the new Level 5 hospital in Gerehu, which is estimated at K800 million.
He compares this price to the substantially lower K210 million cost of a similar facility built by Vamed in Wewak, questioning the financial integrity behind the project.
Bird emphasizes the urgent need for healthcare infrastructure in the NCD and surrounding provinces but urges for transparency in funding and construction practices.
He also highlights critical staffing shortages and power supply issues that could hinder the functioning of new facilities.
Bird advocates for a re-evaluation of how healthcare services are delivered in Papua New Guinea, suggesting that upgrading existing clinics might be a more cost-effective solution than constructing overpriced hospitals.
He calls for accountability and justification regarding the expenditures of taxpayers' money in the healthcare sector.
