Unconscious Patriarchy...

My friend is doing up her house interiors and over the last weekend I decided to accompany her for some furniture shopping. We walked into these two large furniture store chains. I got a very warm welcome by the salesman while there is total awkwardness between him and my female colleague. Even though I introduce both of them and told him her intent of giving him good business, very unnervingly the conversation still continued with me. Very similarly we saw the same reaction at the next store, Iam appalled and have started drawing parallels to the corporate world and of course to my first love ...

The superhero genre has enthralled audiences for decades. But a critical look reveals a persistent gender imbalance. While male heroes dominate the screen, their female counterparts often play supporting roles, relegated to proving their worth again and again.

Take Black Widow and Wonder Woman. Both are powerful and skilled, yet they constantly face scrutiny and the need to validate their place on the team.

This begs the question: is this a reflection of a deeper societal bias against women?

The answer is likely yes.

Movies like The Avengers, while entertaining, perpetuate tropes that can influence real-world perceptions. ?We need more female superheroes who are portrayed not just as strong, but as leaders who are respected and valued from the start.

This is not just about political correctness. It's about showcasing diverse heroes who can inspire future generations of women to dream bigger and fight for their place at the table.

I don't understand why Superwoman has to do everything that Superman does! The moment we ask Women to do something same as their male counterpart to prove themselves as equals, we trigger biases right there! And furniture store to buying houses to investing money to even choosing your partner to not marrying to cooking at home, and many more are just a few examples of inequality in the society between two genders. We have made all these Normal in our mind and society, and now is the time we need to correct our fundamentals for future generations!

Gautam, to your point, we still face these issues. As a female leader, I demonstrate confidence, competence, and leadership in my role, serve as a mentor to younger women as well as connect with other women within and outside your organization who share similar values and goals related to gender equality and inclusion. By taking proactive and intentional actions to challenge patriarchal mindsets, advocating for gender equality, and promoting inclusivity and diversity within their organizations, we can contribute to creating a more equitable, supportive, and empowering workplace for all employees.
