Self Care a necessity not a luxury- re-write
Stephen Heart
Registered Counsellor (PACFA, ACA) Individual, Relationship and Group therapy, working in Wellbeing since 2007
Reflecting on the profound impact of trauma, loss, and grief in my work as a counsellor. The journey of supporting individuals through their experiences has been eye-opening. It's essential to acknowledge that Trauma, whether capital T or milder, can resurface unexpectedly, challenging our coping mechanisms and highlighting the importance of self-care and seeking help when needed.
Recently, a fire incident brought personal insight into the complexities of grief and the necessity of processing emotions. The experience emphasized the significance of addressing our own well-being as professionals in the mental health field. It's crucial to recognize that seeking support does not diminish our professionalism but reinforces our capacity to advocate for mental health care authentically.
Acknowledging the evolving emotions and needs that arise post-trauma is a vital step towards personal growth and effective client care. As we continue this journey, let's remain open to the possibility of seeking help when necessary, fostering a culture that challenges stigmas surrounding mental health support. #MentalHealthAwareness #SelfCare #TraumaSupport #GriefCounseling #TherapeuticInsights

4 个月Thanks for posting, Stephen Heart and sorry, again, to hear about your house and the impact on you both. Yes, it is amazing that physicians are not required to receive regular clinical supervision. I wish that practices, such as the Balint-style method, were more common among doctors and others in the helping professions. Any practice which supports the professional to gain a deeper understanding of the emotional dynamics that exist between them and their patient is critical for the professional's ethical care - of their clients and themselves. #professionalsupervision
