Uncommon Sense: And Caramel Apple Bites

Uncommon Sense: And Caramel Apple Bites

A bi-weekly note that shares ideas and thoughts around family, finances, and food that your parents should have taught you.

This will help your family more than anything...

If you know me, you know that I am a big believer in Jesus. My faith is a HUGE?part of who I am.?

With that being said, I want my kids to have a relationship with Jesus because it helps so, so much.?

Here’s the kicker, I don’t want to force them into having a relationship with Jesus. Therefore, I have to lead them by example and show them just how great it is.?

If you try to tell your kids how to live without walking it out yourself, you are essentially a fraud. Don’t be a fraud, be a leader and lead by example.

So, if you really want your family to experience life and life to the fullest, putting Jesus at the forefront is the best thing you can do.?

Here are practical and actionable things we can do daily with our kids to show them how to walk out their faith:?

1. Pray At Night, Every Night?

  • Have each kid pray for specific things.?
  • Teach them to be in the habit of praying daily.?

2. Morning Devotion Time?

  • Have them look up, read, write, and learn scripture.?
  • Try to discipline them to do this 4–5 days a week.?

3. Pray For People?

  • When someone shares a prayer request, pray for them right then.?
  • Don’t say I’m praying for you because you will forget.

4. Laying Of Hands?

  • When someone has a serious issue, lay hands on them and pray.?
  • This shows your faith in action.

If you implement these steps into your family’s life/routine, it will go a long way. Your kids will WANT to follow Jesus because their hero does.

STOP! Before you start your?business, give this a try...

So, crazy story. I recently just had my #1 competitor, Paul Shunnarah, on my Owners Table podcast…and it was absolutely amazing. You can listen to his episode here.

Paul, is an incredible entrepreneur who has been in the business game since he was in middle school. The guy was selling candy and making a profit…in middle school!?

As he grew up, he sold car stereos, started a gym, and then started the thing that he loves most…a restaurant.

He talks about what he wishes he would’ve done BEFORE he started the restaurant...and it was GREAT ADVICE.?

Most entrepreneurs make the mistake of jumping in head first without learning the valuable lessons from more experienced entrepreneurs who have been in the business for a long period of time.?

There are too many resources out there today not to learn as much as you can before starting a business.?

Granted, you are going to have to learn?lessons the hard way, but how nice would it be if you could avoid losing time and money??

If you are looking into giving your business idea a shot, STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING and take this advice before you do…

1. Get A Mentor

  • Find a person who has already been doing what you want to do and spend A LOT of time with them.?
  • Make sure they have at least a few years of experience.?
  • Here’s why…because they can tell you all the ways they messed up, and you can learn from them and steer clear from making those same mistakes.?

2. Do The Research?

  • Technology is amazing nowadays...you can read tons of reviews on?whatever business you are looking to start.?
  • Ever heard of Reddit? It’s free, and you can join a group of people who are already doing what you want to do, and they write reviews about what they are experiencing ALL THE?TIME.?
  • It probably wouldn’t hurt to read some peer reviewed articles and?books on whatever business venture you are looking into.?

3. Work A Job In That Business

  • If you are looking to run a restaurant, try to work every job that you possibly can at a restaurant.
  • Not only will this give you a ton of?knowledge, it will give you a ton?of swequity (sweat equity) with your future employees.?
  • Don't let your pride get in the way of this step!?

Most people want to start things without putting the time in to learn.?

Sure, it will take some time, but it will save you so much time and money in the long run.

On the Menu: Caramel Apple Bites!

Cook time: 15 min

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag Rolos candies, wrappers removed
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 60 mini pretzels

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Unwrap your Rolos candies, and cut apples into small squares.?
  3. Place your apples in about one cup of water and 1 Tbsp of lemon juice to avoid browning.
  4. Place pretzels on a cookie sheet that is lined with parchment paper. Place the Rolos on top of your pretzels. Put it in the oven for 3 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, remove the apples from the water and dry them off. Place the toothpicks in each apple chunk. Make sure you don't leave the pretzels in the oven over the 3 minutes, you just want to soften them. Place the tooth picked apples in the center of the melted chocolate and caramel. You can leave them out to harden for about 30 minutes, or place them in the refrigerator for 10 minutes, allow to sit for 5 minutes before serving or the caramel will be a bit hard.
