Uncomfortable on Purpose
I'm currently reading Hidden Potential by Adam Grant - and his section about the concept of deliberate awkwardness just hit different.
When we focus on intentionally seeking discomfort - this is where the biggest growth emerges.
Staying in our comfort zones is safe.
It's easy.
It's effortless.
What requires effort is the excruciating thought of failing on purpose.
He presents an interesting context to reframe this thought in, though.
How did we learn to do new things as a child?
To walk, talk, eat independently?
Many mistakes were made.
The difference was, we didn't have the constant reel of negative self-talk or fear of being judged by others.
We made mistakes, got up, and tried again.
We leaned into the struggle.
We pursued growth.
So, where in your life are you willing to step out of that comfortable zone?
Where are you willing to fail to grow, learn, and get back up and try again?
I'll be here to hear about your growth and failures, and certainly share many of mine.
Until next time,
Jackie
P.S. I started that journey I talked about earlier in the month and WOWza - things got uncomfortable quickly. I am learning new things every day about building a small business. If you'd like to connect and learn more - just send me a message!
