Uncharted Territory: Why Autonomous AI is the Next Big Leap

I’ve heard people joke about how they ‘wish they could live in precedented times’ a lot recently. I get the sentiment, really I do. I also hear people joke that they were 'born too late to explore the world, born to early to explore the stars.' often it's the same people saying both phrases. It's very human to want both stability and adventure, but whilst I'm not sure there's vast amounts of stability in our future, there's certainly scope for exploration, disruption and adventure. Especially in tech, the final frontier (Sorry space).

The world’s changing, you don’t need me to tell you that. I saw my first fully AI-art billboard in London recently, it almost certainly won’t be the last.??

I’ve talked before about people in the early days downplaying the transformative power of emerging technologies, from the internet to iPads – it’s cool to be a cynic, and you’re often rewarded for it. Most new forms of tech don’t go on to rewrite history. If you predict that 100% of innovations won’t make much of an impact, you’ll stand to be correct 99% of the time.??

Whilst we’re long past that stage where I could walk into a room and say: “Hey I think this AI stuff is going to be a big deal!” and get anything more than an eye-roll. The generative cat is out of the bag.????

That said, there’s come a backswing from a lot of tech pundits to say that the technology has been overhyped, and we’re reaching the limits of what can be achieved with it. I disagree. I think this is just the start, specifically, I want to talk about autonomous AI.??

What is it???

Autonomous AI is all about having AI systems that do more than just help out — they actively look to create value on their own. They can make decisions, adjust processes on the fly, and even roll out new features without needing a person to step in. An always-on engine that works for your business. Sounds like a pipedream, right???

Well, here’s the thing, some businesses are already entrusting entire processes to AI autonomous assistants – and it’s working.??

Autonomous systems are being used to personalise user experiences and optimise operations. For example, you’ve got companies like UiPath leveraging autonomous bots to handle everything from IT support to financial reconciliations, freeing up teams to focus on strategic growth – and they’re far from the only ones. If your goal is growth, the question isn’t if you should adopt AI, but how fast you can scale your capabilities.?

OK – so what??

I prefer to keep my posts grounded in reality, so if you’re wanting to prepare/educate yourself, here’s what I suggest businesses start doing:?

You can (and definitely should) look at building autonomous AI capabilities directly into your core offering. This means investing in innovation engines that can generate, test, and launch new features independently. Start by deploying AI in isolated projects—like using autonomous algorithms to predict customer churn or optimise pricing strategies—before integrating it into your broader product ecosystem.??

You can dip your toe in the water with AI tools like OpenAI’s Codex or Google’s AutoML to understand how autonomous AI can be integrated into your workflows. Keep yourself grounded, don’t lose the human element (which is invariably what makes your business great) – but make sure you’re thoroughly exploring how best to support your teams with AI-driven processes.??

Like it or not, we’re going to continue to live in unprecedented times – we need to conduct our businesses accordingly.??

No I wouldn't, we need to be very careful how AI is to be used in the future, who and what could it replace! As much as it can be helpful there needs to be a line not to cross.

A thought provoking well balanced view. We are currently looking at ways AI can be trained to automate tasks based on expected and unexpected outcomes.
