Uncharted and the Quest for the Next Action King
Take the classic action-adventure, "Raiders of the Lost Ark", remove compelling characters, iconic action sequences, timeless dialogue, thrills, imagination, and passion, and what you have left is an occasionally inspired, paint by numbers, lastest foray into the " movie based on the game", franchise pursuit that is, Uncharted.
Sure it plays well for audiences needing a mild cinematic distraction, but for those who were exposed to the dazzling derring-do exploits of the Indiana Jones Chronicles some 40 years ago, this, by comparison, is remarkably unimpressive.
The one bright spot is the organic action performance by Marvel's Spiderman, Tom Holland, whose physicality is leaps and bounds ahead of most dramatic actors venturing into the action arena. He injects ownership of his movement that commands the screen as his scenes raise the bar higher than just mere choreographed mimicry. Were Holland to add serious martial arts techniques to his already dynamic physical arsenal, he could emerge as something truly original in the ever-expanding cinematic action landscape.
