Uncharted paths - the joy of small group adventures.
I'm not normally a group traveller, but after a chat with owner and director of Crooked Compass, Lisa Pagotto, I realised I might have been writing off the idea too arbitarily.
Lisa was my guest recently for ExtraVirgin Food & Travel Podcast and we discussed the advantages of small group travel (environmental, social, economic and cultural) as well as where Crooked Compass travel to (so many bucket list destinations for me there!) who the typical guest is, (*not* the sort of travellers Lisa used to escort around bus tours of Europe in her younger years!) and what an itinerary might look like (hint: super flexible and lots of exclusive local experiences)
There are lots of other persuasive arguments for small group travel and Lisa, who rates herself as a curious and quite intrepid traveller, expresses them very articulately. We also discusssed her background in travel, a recent trip to Georgia (the country, not the State) and I asked her what her most memorable travel experience has been (not at ALL what I was expecting.)
My impression coming away from our conversation, was that Covid has changed the way we want to travel, that we are increasingly looking for more bespoke, crafted and interactive travel experiences. We want to come away home with a new perspective or understanding, which is a very positive change. Long may it continue.
