Circle, Tether freezes over $65M in assets transferred from Multichain
Stablecoin issuers Circle and Tether have frozen more than $65 million in assets related to a potential exploit of the Multichain protocol. The freezing came after large amounts of money were withdrawn from the Multichain MPC bridge on July 6. Several addresses receiving millions of dollars in USD Coin (USDC) and Tether (USDT) have been frozen. The withdrawals affected multiple cryptocurrency networks, and the exact cause is still unclear. Multichain has temporarily suspended its services, warning users not to use the bridging service. The CEO of Fantom protocol stated that the fund transfer appears to be an unusual hack, and investigations are ongoing. Multichain has been facing challenges since its leadership disappeared. Crypto bridges like Multichain have been frequent targets for hackers, with numerous incidents reported in the past. A recent report by SlowMist revealed that over $30 billion in crypto assets have been hacked since 2012, with exchange hacks being the most common. Click here for more.

Elon Musk’s lawyers respond to motion to kick Tesla team off Dogecoin case: ‘Waste of this court’s time’
Elon Musk and Tesla have requested a United States district court judge to dismiss a motion seeking sanctions against them in a $258 billion lawsuit alleging Musk's involvement in an illegal racketeering scheme related to Dogecoin. The motion was filed by a lawyer representing the plaintiffs, Evan Spencer, who claimed a conflict of interest in Musk and Tesla's legal representation. Musk and Tesla's legal team responded, calling Spencer's motion unsubstantiated and frivolous. They argued that there is no conflict of interest under New York law and accused Spencer of filing frivolous motions to delay court proceedings. The defense team also denied leaking a letter to the New York Post and stated that it was Spencer who introduced the letter to the jury pool. Click here for more.
BIS develops framework against CBDC cyberattacks
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has released a framework to protect central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) from cybersecurity threats. The BIS emphasized the need to address security risks faced by CBDC systems, citing recent smart contract hacks in decentralized finance (DeFi) that resulted in significant losses.
