UK MP Who Pressured Rumble To Demonetize Russell Brand Received Donation In Kind From Google

Tech giant Google provided a donation in kind worth ￡3,302 to UK Member of Parliament Dame Caroline Dinenage, who chairs the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, and recently sent letters pressuring tech platforms, including Rumble, TikTok, Facebook, and X, to demonetize comedian Russell Brand amid anonymous sexual assault allegations. Dinenage's letter not only urged platforms to strip Brand of monetization but also questioned their efforts to prevent "inappropriate" behavior by creators, regardless of legal charges. Google, a competitor to Rumble, demonetized Brand's YouTube channel despite no content violations or convictions. Rumble's CEO rejected the UK Parliament's attempts to control platform content. One Day After Passage of Orwellian “Online Safety Bill,” UK Home Office Attacks Private Messaging

Following the swift passage of the Online Safety Bill in the UK government, which was ostensibly aimed at safeguarding children and internet users, concerns have arisen regarding its true intentions, particularly its potential impact on end-to-end encryption (E2E). The government has turned its attention to tech giant Meta (Facebook), which is planning to implement E2E encryption on platforms like WhatsApp. The government, led by UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman, argues that E2E encryption could jeopardize efforts to combat child abuse. However, critics, including digital rights group Stop Common Pass, remain skeptical, asserting that Meta's encryption measures may not prevent authorities from accessing metadata and other information, raising doubts about the government's motives in this regard. Linear Finance DeFi Exploit Collapses LUSD Stablecoin to Zero

Decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Linear Finance has fallen victim to an attack that resulted in the draining of liquidity from its Linear USD (LUSD) token. The attack occurred on September 21, with the attacker exploiting vulnerabilities to create an unlimited supply of LAAVE tokens, which were then traded for LUSD on the Linear Exchange. The stolen tokens were subsequently sold on PancakeSwap and Ascendex decentralized exchanges. Linear Finance has suspended all smart contracts and bridges and is working to track down the attacker. Near Foundation CEO Marieke Flament Departs, Chris Donovan Takes Charge

Marieke Flament, the CEO of the Near Foundation, has resigned from her position, and Chris Donovan, the general counsel, will take over as CEO. Flament will continue to be involved with NEAR as a council member and advisor to Donovan. She highlighted NEAR's achievements during her tenure, including partnerships with companies like Google, Amazon, and KPMG, as well as significant user growth, with 3 million monthly active accounts and two-thirds of the top decentralized apps (Dapps) built on NEAR. Flament also emphasized NEAR's robust treasury, which includes $350 million and 330 million NEAR tokens. Her resignation comes at a time when the crypto industry has seen several high-profile resignations, including at Binance.US and the New York State Department of Financial Services. Financial Regulator Issues 'Final Warning' to Non-Compliant UK Crypto Firms

The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has issued a warning to cryptocurrency businesses to comply with new financial promotion rules, which many of them appear to be ignoring. According to the FCA, only 24 out of over 150 crypto firms responded to a survey related to the new rules. These rules, set to take effect next month, will restrict how financial promotions from "unauthorized and unregistered crypto businesses" can be communicated. The FCA expressed concern about the lack of engagement from unregistered overseas crypto firms that have UK customers and emphasized the potential penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for continuing illegal financial promotions. Poland probing OpenAI, ChatGPT following GDPR complaint

Poland's Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) has initiated an investigation into a complaint against OpenAI's ChatGPT, accusing the firm of processing data in an "unlawful, unreliable manner." The unnamed applicant alleges that ChatGPT generated false information about them, and their requests under the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) were not fulfilled by OpenAI. UODO President Jan Nowak acknowledged the challenges of pursuing proceedings against a company outside the European Union but stated that OpenAI would be asked to respond to questions as part of the administrative process. This is not the first time OpenAI has faced GDPR compliance concerns in Europe, with previous actions taken by Italian and German authorities.
