Thank you for joining us this month. It’s a very troubling and disturbing time with uncertainty for many individuals with connections and family in Ukraine, our thoughts are most definitely with them.
?What's happening in the news is pretty heavy right now, and perhaps you feel powerless, but there are ways we can all help. We've linked the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal and Unicef below, there are many local collection centres being set up, with Facebook doing an excellent job of keeping people informed of what, where and when donations are welcome.
?We’re keeping a watching eye on the situation as it continues to unfold and should we get any advice from the Home Office reference a change in refugee status and employment, we will circulate that to you as soon as possible, in the event that you may be able to help.
?The Home Office confirmed that work, study or visit visas would be temporarily extended for some Ukrainians in the UK, or they would be able to apply for family visas or points-based immigration without leaving the country. This would grant them additional time to potentially find a job and stay in the UK for longer. Those already on the point-based system will be able to stay longer and seasonal agricultural workers will have their visas automatically extended until the end of the year. (Source:?The Guardian)
?Cost of Living Crisis
?In more disturbing news, The Telegraph reported that the cost-of-living crisis will see workers [households] nearly £3K per annum worse off. All thanks to price rises in energy, fuel and food, plus mortgage rate rises, council tax rises and of course the 1.25% increase in National Insurance due to be implemented in April.?The Telegraph?reports that workers will need a pay rise of 8.7% just to keep up. What are your plans for keeping your current employees up to speed?
?So, from a recruitment point of view, you can expect that candidates will be taking this into consideration when negotiating salaries - be prepared, this is an emotional time we’re living through. Making ends meet is harder than ever and whilst benefits and culture play a role in terms of a candidate’s job selection criteria, I would wager that with the increasing financial pressure households are facing this year (and beyond) that financial compensation is going to be firmly front and centre stage of your interview discussions.

?Pay Reviews
?The?Guardian?reported back in February that British employers are expecting to award pay rises of 3% in 2022 - that looks like its nearly 6% adrift from what workers might need to ‘keep up’. We’ll be watching with interest and will report any developments in future newsletters - or as always, pick up the phone and talk to me if you have any concerns or want to get my view on your salary strategy for recruitment.
?This ONS?report?details the average weekly earnings in Great Britain: January 2022, it’s a great source of information and helpful if you are setting your wage and salary budgets for the coming financial year.
Welcome Becky!
?Some good news to report. As many of you will know I have been looking for some time for a new member of staff to come and join me on the Aspire Jobs journey.?It was essential to me that the successful person reflected our Aspire Jobs culture and ethos/values, and this took some time to find!?
?I’m delighted to announce that Becky Wooden has joined Aspire Jobs and will be assisting me with candidate resourcing and general administration work.?She has hit the ground running and is already working through the jobs I have on and helping to call and chase up potential candidates, as well as arranging interviews.?
?Becky specialises in general administration and customer service and in the 2 weeks she has been with working me, picked up recruitment very quickly.?
?In fact, on Thursday last week, she made her first placement which is amazing considering she had only been working in recruitment for 9 days, so I feel like Becky is already a great asset to the Aspire Jobs team.
?Over the next few months, I am sure you will either speak to her or meet with her.?Do feel free to reach out and welcome her to Aspire Jobs.
