Unbreakable Bonds: The Journey and Joys of Adoption
Foster Family Interview: How one moment changed everything
Reunification of foster children with their biological families is Adriel’s mission and top priority. The process is deeply hopeful yet complex, aiming to restore children to a safe, stable, and nurturing home whenever possible. It often begins with a concerted effort by social workers, therapists, and the family to address the issues that led to the child’s removal, such as substance abuse, neglect, or domestic violence. Reunification can be a challenging and emotional journey, requiring foster parents to make significant sacrifices in order to meet each child’s needs. With Adriel’s goal of reunification in mind, one foster family (not pictured) experienced a much different outcome then they expected. Read more about their story below:

Eight years ago, inspired by the birth of their biological child, a foster family pondered the idea of adoption. Ultimately, they began to pursue infant adoption, with the decision to adopt coming from a deep sense of love and faith, recognizing how God’s love is reflected in both marriage and adoption. The process of adoption suddenly came to a screeching halt, and with the help of one of Adriel’s consultants, the decision to switch to fostering was made.
The journey was emotionally challenging, as reunification with biological families is the goal, yet the bond with their foster children created a strong love. They often questioned their decision, citing the eventual heartbreak they might face. Undecided, one question made their decision clear:
Who am I to be worried about heartbreak when these children go through heartbreak every day?
Although initially fearful of the heartbreak foster care might bring, they felt God led them to pursue foster care, ultimately realizing that fostering children through their own struggles was a higher calling than avoiding potential pain. With that, they made their final decision to foster.
Parenting, to them, requires consistency and fairness for all children, both foster and biological. They emphasized the importance of routine and clear rules to each child. After a period of fostering, they were given the opportunity to adopt their foster children. At first, they were surprised by the news, as they had settled with the potential of reunification for their foster children. However, the choice was clear, and they recently?finalized the adoption. Today, their family is not defined by how it began, but by the love that holds it together. For them, fostering and adoption were not just acts of generosity but profound lessons in trust, patience, and faith—a reflection of the belief that every child deserves a place to belong and be loved unconditionally.

As stated before, reunification is our goal for each foster child. But ultimately, our main goal is for each foster child and young adult to be safe, happy, and loved.
