UNBOX the Good Times - HNY 2022

Dear Friends –

Last week, during binge watching of some YouTube videos, one episode from JORDINDIAN - ‘Types of UNBOXING’ - caught my attention. It was funny and relevant.

After an over dose of online shopping from home this year, I tend to agree that Unboxing videos (and ASMR) are the latest craze.

No wonder, there are lots of spoof / parody videos streaming now which are as popular as the original UNBOXING videos.

However, what caught my attention is the word UNBOXING as I started reflecting upon the usage of the word and what it really means..

So, let’s talk about UNBOXING a little more … Chaliye, shuru karthey hain ??

Firstly, all of us must understand that UNBOXING is just not a simple VERB;

It can mean managing, handling, opening, declaring, bring up, front face, surface, showing, exhibiting, etc. etc.. and Oh, lot others - in all best suited to weirdest situations.

Like most words in English language, it is so special. Omnipresent.

Let’s understand how it fits into our day to day vocabulary :

A serum container in a virus lab, UNBOXED sans precaution, might erupt a deadly virus into the world;

A freezer box, UNBOXED without supervision, might permanently diffuse an important vaccine vial;

A crucial ballot, UNBOXED with questionable counts, could change who will be the next President;

A military troop pullout, UNBOXED at a wrong time, can bring back chaotic groups to power;

A BREXIT decision, UNBOXED without preparation, can create logistics & immigration issues in the region;

A peppy election song, UNBOXED accidentally, can contribute to a defeat in state elections;

A container ship blocking a canal, UNBOXED a domino effect, disrupting global supply chains.

A captain’s ego, UNBOXED in a team dressing room, might cost a T20 world-cup;

And the list goes on …

Now. Keeping aside the linguistics part, it is important to understand the humanities involved with this word.

?Let’s consider these.

Unboxing of a surprise Gift Package from your Dad has completely different emotion to it, as compared to the unboxing of an Ordered Package from Amazon…?

Unboxing a Promotion letter has completely different emotion to it, as compared to unboxing of a renewal letter for Car Insurance ...

Unboxing the chocolate gift hamper box for your Son has completely different emotion to it, as compared to unboxing the Ice bucket in a bar ...

In summary, UNBOXING is a perfect Metaphor; It is an ART form - surrounded with emotions and experience.

It can be applied to things, feelings and people alike.

In any case, It is an activity you must undertake with utmost thoughtfulness and focus !

At times, what’s inside the BOX may lose importance, with the colorful pomp & packaging around it.

One more thing. Sometimes we cannot change what we get in a BOX.

But, how you UNBOX it, certainly makes the difference !

In few hours, we all shall UNBOX the new year 2022.

Just remember these while UNBOXING - differentiate the glaring Color from streaming Content, differentiate the Outward appearance from Internal brilliance, differentiate the Outer chaos from Inner peace.

Let’s UNBOX it with some care. Let’s UNBOX it with a prayer. Let’s UNBOX it with a promise. Let’s UNBOX it with a smile.
