Unbiased love and Mental Immunity

Unbiased love and Mental Immunity

Another insight update from the "Path of Joy" from Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama.

We all NEED LOVE TO SURVIVE, every human being in every culture, period. ?As a society we have a deep understanding of this, at least for our newborn babies. We carry them in kangaroo pouches, we support breast feeding moms and have thrown out many outdated philosophies that deprive babies from the comforting sound of the heartbeat of their caregiver.?

Without physical connection and genuine love we suffer and create suffering for other people in small and in monumental ways. ??Without love, we feel distant, seek to gain power, become afraid and REACT out of that fear.? There is an invitation to work towards global and social justice with a mindset of unbiased love and joy for all parties.

Our medicine… is to love well and be loved well through the life span. ???Love our children, partners, siblings, co-workers, neighbors and friends.??We need loving touch often and are asked to extend genuine care and love to one another through the life span.?

Our medicine is to grow in our capacity to give UNBIASED LOVE.??Love that is not simply self-serving or given solely to our children, family, team, folks that think we are great, our nation and political affiliates.??Unprocessed trauma can prevent unbiased love from unfolding, we must heal it. It shows up in our workplace dynamics and with all our relations.

Our medicine is to practice loving those we consider different from us.?We CAN DEFEND AND PROTECT OURSELVES, set healthy boundaries and limits and still offer love and care for the wellbeing of others. ?Most don't even understand how this is possible, unless your life has blessed you with opportunities to learn this.

Our medicine is to break the extremes of friend or foe thinking and live life in the gray tones. It's to break the punisher within us. We must hold the heart open for transformation and reconciliation, rather than burning bridges and cutting people out. ???Let us not be confused, unbiased love is not being a pushover or weak minded person. It is also not narcissistic “love bombing” that we use to manipulate others to get our needs/wants met, then only to retract and punish if we are denied what we want.?It’s a deeper way of loving that many elders or individuals at end of life seem to understand.

Unbiased love is letting the heart love all of humanity and sentient beings, not for what they can do for us, but because they are worthy of being loved. We are asked to see beyond the meat suit and heart armor. ?

Unbiased love in action is powerful practice for me personally, it has come in handy when loving my ex-husband and his wonderful partner, my in-laws, my son's bully and his defensive parents, to the addicts in my life, to angry activists who are suffering and lashing out, and when working with individuals who have committed acts violence against their families.??When applying these teachings, it is a mindset that takes time to develop, yet is worth the effort.

We are also instructed UNDERSTAND THE NATURE OF THE HUMAN MIND. We are encouraged to not judge ourselves for having negative thoughts, feelings or desires.??We must be compassionate to ourselves and learn our triggers.??

Archbishop Tutu shared that we must develop MENTAL IMMUNITY. Mental Immunity is equally important to physical immunity in keeping our bodies resilient to viruses and diseases.??To build mental immunity we must minimize the time we stay in negative emotional states and train our mind to notice, shift and sustain more positive states of mind for longer periods of time.??(This is exactly what Heartmath teaches and why I love sharing it.).?

THERE ARE NOT QUICK FIXES that really work.??Our freedom and happiness are deeply connected to our mental immunity which takes time to develop, a pill won’t fix it.?So, our medicine is to study and develop ourselves overtime.?

?I have found that this journey is much easier when accompanied by others who have genuine care and compassionate mindset. Thank you to all my teachers and soul friends along the way!

Love to the Dalai Lama and to the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu
