Why is ambition imperative for women in tech
Few fields are as male-dominated as the tech industry. But that doesn't mean there isn't room for ambitious women in tech. Quite the contrary! Given the unique challenges and obstacles women in tech face, ambition is one of the most important qualities for women to build upon. Women in tech are often underrepresented in the field, which poses them with a major difficulty - how to be taken seriously. Showing determination allows women to be seen as leaders and experts in their field. It also helps them to build a strong network of allies and mentors.
In other words, being unapologetically ambitious can help women in tech confront the issues still very present in the tech industry.

1 年I challenge that we start by changing the 1978 negative narrative used only for women from Impostor Syndrome to a 2022 positive narrative like Growth Mindset! Sit with that - it’s actually one in the same. I suggest the fantastic academics that wrote about the inner voice phenomenon in 1978 called it what it was for the time but lets just reframe a bit shall we against the 2007 work by another fantastic psychologist that normalises the experience across genders and not another barrier that girls “learn” when stepping into the workforce. I wonder how long it would take to remove Impostor Syndrome from our gender-specific experiential vernacular. My recently submitted research for peer review uncovers the negative narrative link to a self-realisation of career barriers for women. Let’s help our future female leaders step off on the right foot! #changethenarrative

2 年I turned 40 recently and have started looking at my career differently in tech. I use to care what others think but not really now. I also find that the people who root me on are most commonly male and not female. There are a few key female role models at work and in my life but it’s the guys I work with who seem to really get me, as well, my brother is huge in my world… Anyway, thanks for publishing this, I always feel like an imposter but I also always brush that feeling aside and push forward, life is too short.

2 年Insightful article. I particularly love point 5 “Keep an open mind and take a few risks - surely thus you will open up more opportunities for yourself!” This ties in nicely with point 1 on imposter syndrome where self doubt limits your belief in how far you can go in your career or business.

2 年we think it is time to move to the "C" speed, this non-mixity highlights the inequalities and gender stereotypes that persist in the world of work and, more broadly, in society (rooted since childhood), disabling and biasing the pro orientations of women in general. Globalize this fight by reformatting the male mentality, seminars, colloquiums, workshops of "proximity" where men will be the precursors of this initiative elbow to elbow with women; that it be a global network accessible to the public, without a nerve center, composed of millions of networks as private, academic, commercial and governmental, themselves grouped in autonomous networks! refexion is necessary, it is necessary to dare the change...Go
