UN Tourism at FITUR 2025: an important step in sectoral cooperation
27 January 2025
UN Tourism returns to the FITUR International Fair to drive the evolution of the sector towards greater accessibility and growth driven by investment and innovation.
On the eve of FITUR 2025, UN Tourism brought together high-level delegates to celebrate its 50th anniversary and reaffirm its long-standing commitment to making the sector a pillar of peace and understanding. Looking ahead to the next 50 years, UN Tourism once again used the platform of the leading tourism trade fair to promote present and future priorities, with a focus on supporting new ideas and technologies and stimulating investment in the sector.
UN Secretary-General for Tourism Zurab Pololikashvili said: “As UN Tourism celebrates its 50th anniversary, FITUR meets for the 45th time. Together, we have helped shape global tourism by bridging the gap between the public and private sectors, fostering dialogue and cooperation, and promoting shared priorities around innovation, sustainability and resilience. ?
As part of FITUR 2025, UN tourism leaders held a series of high-level meetings with delegates, including tourism ministers, business leaders and representatives of its member states.
FITUR 2025: tourism investments at the centre of the news
In Madrid, UN Tourism welcomed key players at a special investment breakfast, organised in collaboration with the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF). The event brought together experts who focused on key opportunities and challenges to increase investment in the sector across the region.
On this occasion, UN Tourism presented the latest additions to its growing portfolio of the “Tourism and Business” investment guide. The two new publications are dedicated to the investment landscape of Panama, as well as Brazil, partner country of FITUR 2025.
Making tourism more accessible for all
To further promote its commitment to making tourism and its benefits accessible for all, UN Tourism organised a special side event at FITUR (23 January).
Organised in collaboration with Fundación ONCE, the European Accessible Tourism Network and ILUNION Accesibilidad, the event “Accessible Tourism: Harnessing the benefits of inclusive destinations for businesses and people” assessed the progress made in this area and highlighted the benefits of destinations being more inclusive. The event also assessed the challenges faced by destinations in opening them up to visitors of all levels, with a focus on infrastructure and the use of innovation to improve accessibility.
UN Tourism Affiliate Members: Welcome to New Partners

The event assessed key areas of growth and other areas with potential for destinations seeking to diversify their tourism offering.
During FITUR, UN Tourism signed new Memoranda of Understanding with affiliate member CIFFT (Audiovisual Tourism Advertising), aimed at promoting creativity.
