UN End of Plastic Pollution Textiles for the Marine sector made from Recycled Marine plastic and cotton

As some of you know we recently launched our new sustainable product line made from recycled marine waste: Romas Marine Sustainable Textiles. We are committed to creating sustainable, environmentally friendly products and are proud to offer this solution to the marine industry.

According to the United Nations Environment Program, the textile industry currently contributes up to 10% of global CO2 emissions, which is more than the combined emissions of international flights and shipping. Additionally, each year around 11 million tons of plastic waste is released into the world's oceans. Due to the 2022 UNEA-5 “End of Plastic Pollution” resolution leading to the Global Plastic Treaty (GPT) in 2024, corporations will be required to comply with these programs in similar fashion as they have to comply with carbon emissions. Our products are well-suited to help meet these new objectives.

We offer a unique solution to clothing and textile requirements of the marine industry by creating clothes and other textiles from marine plastic waste. This helps to create a circular economy that is both sustainable and environmentally friendly. By using our products, companies in the marine industry can further reduce their carbon dioxide emissions and the amount of plastic waste that enters the oceans hence help towards achieving your NetZero, GPT and ESG goals.

For example, a large cruise ship of 5000 passengers and 2250 crew may use upto 175.000 pieces of textile such as towels, cloths, bedlinens, bathrobes etc. every few months. This is equivalent to about 766.000 empty plastic bottles and represents a carbon footprint of approx. 21 tons! The quality of our textiles meets European standards.

Upstream usage of recycled marine plastic reduces the production of virgin plastic (and therefore new microplastics) in line with the Global Plastic Treaty whereas downstream we remove substantial amounts of plastic from the ocean which effectively means these plastic bottles and other plastic products will not disintegrate into microplastic.?

In short the main advantages of our product for you are:

·????????Carbon footprint reduction

·????????Chemical water-use reduction

·????????Microplastic reduction

·????????Cleaner oceans

·????????Corporate responsibility improvement

·????????Helping towards NetZero goals

Existing clients are for example the Monaco Government, ABC Maritime in Nyon, and the AS Monaco Basketball team.?

Some facts about the textile industry:

  • 10% of human CO2 footprint by textile industry
  • 11 million tons of plastic waste in Oceans each year
  • Since 1953 about 8.3 billion tons of plastic has been produced
  • 4.6 billion tons approx. is now accumulated in landfills and oceans
  • 350 million tons of plastic consumed each year
  • European Commission proposes a mandatory EU recycled content target for plastics packaging of 30% by 2030.
  • Romas Marine Textiles use only recycled materials, mostly recycled marine waste and waste cotton or biological cotton
  • 10 kg of plastic is used to make 100 shirts
  • 100 plastic bottlers makes 4 Tshirts or Polo shirts
  • Upto 5 plastic bottles are used for one towel

Microfibers:

  • textiles produce 35% of the microplastic pollution in the world’s oceans (in the form of synthetic microfibers), which would make textiles the largest known source of marine microplastic pollution.
  • That’s about 2.2 million tons of microfibers entering the ocean every year

Main advantages of RMST:

·????????Carbon footprint reduction

·????????Chemical water reduction

·????????Microplastic reduction

·????????Cleaner oceans

·????????Corporate responsibility improvement

·????????Helping towards NetZero goals

·????????Improve on corporate sustainability targets

·????????Comply with United Nations EA-5 Resolution “End of Plastic Pollution” and the future ”Global Plastic Treaty” in 2024
