Un académicien s'en est allé !
Le sculpteur sénégalais Ousmane Sow n'est plus. Grande figure de l’art contemporain connue pour ses sculptures monumentales, l’artiste Ousmane Sow est mort ce matin de jeudi 1er décembre à Dakar à l’age de 81 ans. Il était connu pour ses sculptures de guerriers qui ont fait le tour du monde. L'enracinement de l’artiste dans l’Afrique et son attachement à la France est illustré par son passé.
Malgré son amour pour la France des années 50, plus tolérante et chaleureuse selon lui, il opta pour la nationalité sénégalaise et retourne dans son pays où il devient le premier kinésithérapeute sénégalais, la profession qu’il a exercé avant sa reconnaissance en tant qu’artiste.
Premier kinésithérapeute du Sénégal, mais aussi premier Noir à devenir membre de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Paris en décembre 2013. Une récompense qu’il se glorifie d’avoir re?ue sans quota racial et qu’il a dédié à Nelson Mandela, ainsi qu’à un autre précurseur noir en France, son compatriote Léopold Sédar Senghor. La conclusion que l’on espère voir de l’?uvre d’un artiste de France qui aura montré qu’un Noir peut s’y hisser au sommet par travail et talent, s’ils sont véritablement grands comme les géants d’Ousmane Sow, sans s’appuyer sur le dos de la discrimination positive. The Senegalese sculptor Ousmane Sow is dead. Major figure of the contemporary art was known for his monumental sculptures, the artist Ousmane Sow died this morning of Thursday, December 1st in Dakar at the age of 81.
Ousmane Sow was known for its warriors' sculptures which went round the world. The implanting of the artist in Africa and its attachment in France is illustrated by his past. Although lover of France of the 50s, more tolerant and warmer according to him, he chooses the Senegalese nationality and returns to his country where he becomes the first Senegalese physiotherapist, the profession that he practiced before his gratitude as artist.
First physiotherapist of Senegal, but also first Black to become member of the Academy of Arts of Paris in December, 2013. An award which he glories to have received without racial quota and which he dedicated to Nelson Mandela, as well as to another black precursor in France, his fellow countryman Léopold Sédar Senghor. The conclusion which we hope to see of the work of an artist of France who will have shown that a Black can raise himself on the summit by work and talent there, if they are really big as the giants of Ousmane Sow, without leaning on the back of the positive discrimination.
