This newsletter is not about inspiring diversity. This is a newsletter about marketing and business transformation.
You might be wondering why I would be sharing a photo of my grandmother's dining room wallpaper alongside a title that is so outside of my realm of expertise. Would you believe that AI made me do it?
I'm trying to love AI, really I am.
But I don't think AI loves me back
This morning when I sat down to write my newsletter I saw an ad for ChatGPT suggesting I try using it for image creation. I thought it would be a great idea. Wow - did I ever learn my lesson.
At 8:00am I typed this prompt into (the paid version of) ChatGPT: Create a LinkedIn newsletter header image that is 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall showing Jeanniey Walden inspiring a diverse room of executives. Add a text overlay on the top left that says "Your Weekly Dose of A.I.R" and underneath it add the name "Jeanniey Walden" in script.
Maybe I am not proficient at prompts (please, someone tell me what I did wrong), or maybe I never realized I was so angry, but this is what it made for me.
There are many things I didn't like about this result so I asked it to "revise the image of Jeanniey Walden so she did not look so angry." This is what is gave me next
Well.... I'm less angry! (hooray ???) but now I am apparently a one woman CMO fashion show. At least I still have heels on.
Unsure why, by asking it to change my demeanor caused it to change the entire image, I asked it to try again and "Create a LinkedIn newsletter header image that is 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels wide showing Jeanniey Walden, who has medium length blonde hair and brown eyes, inspiring a diverse room of executives. Add a text overlay on the top left that says "Your Weekly Dose of A.I.R" and underneath it add the name "Jeanniey Walden" in script."
This time....
Success! I finally got the text overlay to appear on the younger, confused and straight-off-the-red-eye, me, not speaking to the audience (and looking confused about that) but being stared down by a cross-eyed woman in the front row (who must have been on the same flight as me).
After switching GPT models and trying again, the results kept getting worse, and more random.
While the GPT continued to apologize for not getting it right, and committing to make it work, it just couldn't make it happen.
After 3 hours of becoming. a deformed, very flexible CMO who just isn't inspiring anyone in this photo, I finally gave up and asked ChatGPT to advise me on what other systems I could use to create a suitable banner. Convinced that it was just me I was not about to give up.
This is what I got back:
It was close but still didn't work. ChatGPT suggested I try Canva. I did, with no luck. Going back to ChatGPT I asked it to just make me a banner with words. This time, it must have had enough of me too. This is what it said.
All of the sudden it can't create images. Hmmmm. Fine - I just shut this all down and went to LinkedIn, who suggested I use Microsoft AI to design my banner. I used the same prompt I started the day with "Create a LinkedIn newsletter header image that is 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels wide showing Jeanniey Walden inspiring a diverse room of executives. Add a text overlay on the top left that says "Your Weekly Dose of A.I.R" and underneath it add the name "Jeanniey Walden" in script."
And you see where that got us (at 10:30pm)
Maybe I am unclear on how to prompt an AI system (huge learning opp). Would love to see what you come up with. Post it in the comments and let's learn together.
Hilarious! Who does ChatGPT think you are? I like this "Female Wolf of Wall Street" version of you in high heels the most. Rarrrrrrrrr.
