Um, what did I just press? I can't see!

I have reviewed hundreds of websites since the beginning of my web design career.

Many people send me their links as soon as they see what my specialty is.

“Hi Leah, I just launched my website, can you tell me what you think?”

In the beginning, I sent comprehensive reviews, on the house (now available for a price) and gave my opinion on the design with recommendations of what to change.

It’s fascinating -

Everyone KNOWS they need to have a website that is user-friendly on mobile.

But so many are just NOT!

Here are some of the issues I find with mobile websites

  • Images are not resized properly so they are cut off (or too small)
  • Text size is too large or too small
  • Buttons are too small
  • Menu has a transparent background so you can’t see the options
  • Email and phone are not clickable
  • Cookies acceptance is too large and takes up half the screen
  • Slow loading times
  • Too many items - the things that are displayed side by side on desktop are now in one column that keeps on going and going

Most website builders have mobile responsive options built in. You can resize text and images and hide different parts so they only show on either desktop or mobile.

Want to give your website the best chance possible?

Put your efforts into creating a user-friendly and enjoyable mobile experience. Most of your potential clients will most likely be checking you out on their phones.

It should not be an afterthought - it should be the FIRST thought!

Do this, and you’ll increase your conversion rates exponentially!

Great article, there are still many brochure, or business card websites not built for conversion. Many people build a site because they have a small business and need a site but have no primary purpose on the site meaning call to action are bit unclear.

Very good article Leah. I can see your work in in your own "background to your profile photo" and more. I loved digital design when I was in school.
