Um ... no. Just no.

When I aim my cursor over the box to compose a post or article, LinkedIn prompts with the the opportunity to have AI write the words for me.

That's a hell of a thing to offer a writer.

I don't take advantage of the offer because no machine will write like I do. It won't have the sometimes strange turns of thoughts and tortured analogies that I inflict upon the poor souls who read my posts.

Actually, I'm not even tempted.

Perhaps my lack of temptation indicates a character flaw. The idea of having a "machine" write something for me gives me the willies. It's disconcerting and just plain icky.

I find it a conflict of interest.

If I'm promoting myself as a writer to potential clients (and I am, of course), then having AI write my posts is disingenuous, deceptive at the very least. I place a high priority on writing original content, even in my weekday LinkedIn posts.

Could AI write something better? It might. My weekday posts don't necessarily fall under the category of deathless prose. I'm not the wittiest writer out there by any means. Sometimes coming up with a topic to post becomes an exercise in futility or banality.

We can't all be scintillating all the time.

But I'm very good at what I do. Am I the best? No. You'll never hear me say (or write) that I am the best at anything. In the 30-plus years of my career, I've learned there's always someone who's better than me, you, or anyone else, no matter what trade or profession. In a world exceeding 8 billion people, finding someone who's better skilled than me or you isn't all that difficult. Finding someone who's better than average ... ah, there's the rub! The world brims with mediocrity.

I'm very good at what I do. I dare say I'm better than average.

What are you willing to pay for? Below average? Adequate? Or better than average?
