Ultraviolet...Really ?

Pantone color of the year 2018 is Ultraviolet and needless to say I'm a bit disappointed. The Official statement Pantone released about the color reads, ''PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future''

With the morose socio-political cloud of war, strained relations, racism, increasing intolerance and lies; I understand that we needed a color a bit more original and hopeful, but is Ultraviolet that original? I would have personally and professionally gone with a color with a bit more poise, composure and elegance - reminiscing the era of Michelle. A color that lifted the grey aura around us and is not built from it. Ultraviolet for me engulfs the room and needs attention and babysitting. It cannot be left alone, as it is a huge statement - but maybe it was intended to be like a statement.

Then you might ask, ''What do you think the color of the year should have been ?'' Thank you for asking, please hold your breath - I think the color of the year should have been GOLD! Ta..da..there I said it!

Gold. It should have been GOLD! (now I said it twice) Why Gold?

Gold is royal, it is elegant and has a poised stage presence. Its beautiful and knows it can lift any color when used in the right measure. It will never try to engulf the room, lest we give it to the Trumps (Then we can say it's in wrong hands). But seriously, think gold and rose quartz (pantone color of the year 2016), gold and serenity (pantone color of the year 2016), gold and emerald (pantone color of the year 2014). Gold adds value, it makes a lasting impression and is evocative of a better past. It is the glue, that binds the colors (metaphorically: societies, cultures) together, connects to the colors of the past well, lifts the dementor-like grey. Should'nt Gold lead the world ?
