Ultra Low-NOx SBR-5 burner

Ultra-Low NOx burners have been on the market for 25 years. Many smaller ones have been using a surface combustion mesh net with very low energy efficiency. Bigger burners typically are designed for a greater amount of FGR.

Cleaver-Brooks where one of the first manufacturers to develop a full family of stable performing 9ppm Low-NOx burners in early 2000. Ranging from 3MMBTU to 92MMBTU the NT family covered a wide range. It is still a perfect go to in many NOx applications due to its dual fuel feature and stable operation.

Cleaver-Brooks launched during 2021 the SBR-5 family that is a dual-fuel burner family for extreme 5ppm NOx conditions. It's unic burner head and air distribution makes it possible to reach level that has not seen before in STD dual fuel burners. A high 6:1 turndown to avoid boiler cycling has been hard to reach in the past.

This SBR burner controlled by Hawk-4000 UL listed burner/boiler controller with a 10" touch screen. A solid well tested platform that have a single interface HMI for burner, VFD, boiler, boiler water level and draft control.

All SBR-5 burners where tested in multiple sizes and conditions in Monroe R&D laboratory to confirm stable conditions on both fuel options. Laboratory tests are very important to verify the results from CFD studies.

All new Cleaver-Brooks product development are started with multiple iterations in CFD to ensure airflow and gas injection. After this first step full combustion studies are executed on different firing rates. Mathematical calculations will save money, fuel and time when reaching real life fire testing in the lab.

Terrebonne location close to Montreal hosts the home for CFD engineers and an in-house CFD server cluster serving the whole corporate with powerful processing capability. For bigger projects also cloud space is rented.

Cleaver-Brooks can proudly say that we do not deliver science projects to be tested in the field.

While developing SBR-5 burner there was also a project to reach 30ppm NOx without FGR in 4-pass steam boilers.

As a result SBR-30 was born. SBR-30 has had a huge success in multiple applications. Firetube/Flextubes/Industrial Watetubes/Heaters.

Great work. Is it only Flue Gas Recirculation method or air/gas staging mechanisim is also applied in it?
