Stuck in anxiety & depression? Tried everything and still nothing works?
Keep reading because the last 6 months I’ve also been stuck in an unbelievable rut with my mental health. Triggered by a variety of events in my personal life that really traumatized me and created the perfect terrible storm.
However, now I’ve never felt better and I want to share what I’ve learned…
For years I’ve been meditating, exercising, etc but I slowly saw myself lose motivation.
Instead of giving 100% of even 85% my operating level dropped to 30%. I would sit down and meditate, set a timer for 15 minutes, and then open my eyes after 3 minutes had passed.
For weeks and weeks, and eventually months I was stuck idle in this toxic cycle.
Being stuck here is really like living in hell. You lose all hope. Nothing matters anymore.
Everything you try to do, doesn’t work. You go on social media and see your colleagues and friends living amazing happy lives, but you’re not. The cycle repeats.
You find substances, content, anything that numbs you out so you can avoid feeling that terrible painful feeling of drifting in your life. However, the more you try to numb out the pain, the less pleasure you feel from the things that once used to give you joy.
Dark, I know…I’ve been there many times.
Step 1 - Anxiety Isn’t Even Mostly In Your Head
Anxiety is when you have lost your free will due to a feedback loop between your brain’s neurochemistry, and the nervous system in your body, locking you in your mind.
It’s very important to understand this because if you don’t you will take anxiety personally.
Stop looking at your mental health like it’s a personal problem that only you have because you never do anything right, or you have no value to add to the world, and start looking at your mental health like a science project you can work on…
Seeing a therapist can be incredibly valuable as well!
Step 2 - Dopamine Detox
One of the reasons why I felt so terrible was because my brain was too jacked up on chemicals. Why? I was trying to numb away the pain like I had done for most of my life.
Not necessarily through drugs but doing behaviors that cause your brain to produce too much dopamine. When your brain produces too much dopamine, it changes your baseline for how much dopamine you need to feel motivated or happy on a regular basis.
Meaning, you can’t be “happy” unless you scroll through social media for hours or eat junk food.
Why do we do this? We medicate our underlying mental health issues with modern vices.
One of the best solutions is to commit to yourself to do a dopamine detox for a limited amount of time. By doing this detox you are beginning the process of clearing out the crap. Tell yourself, for the next 30 days, or if that’s too hard, for the next week, if that’s too hard, for the next 24 hours.

Step 3 - Find Sources of Good Pain
Pain is essential. The right kind of pain is what your brain needs to grow and step into your full potential. Without pain, you will experience no long term pleasure or happiness.

Conclusion
Start small and work your way up. If you’ve never meditated before, don’t start doing it 3 times a day. Try doing it once a day for 5 minutes.
Bottom Line: If you do this everyday consistently for 2 weeks you will feel like a different person. You will feel like your brain has upgraded, your mental health challenges won’t be as bad and you’ll be able to do what you actually want to do in life.

2 年What a great advice, Mark ?? The only part I can't agree on is eating 3+ times a day, pursuant to my research. How did you come with this piece of advice? I'd love to have a chat with you ?? In particular, because, my understanding is that: - Firstly, if we keep putting food in constantly then the body gets lazy with burning fat for energy and would be relying on incoming food. Our metabolism is affected as a result. - Moreover, there should be at least 2 hours between meals for gut bacteria to be washed down from places where it shouldn't be. Otherwise, it often results in SIBO. Both conditions can contribute greatly to anxiety ??
