  • Have active discussions (look for groups with a high level of engagement).

  • Maintain a professional and respectful atmosphere.

Don’t simply join large groups; focus on finding communities where you can add value. The size of the group doesn’t always correlate with the quality of leads you can generate.


2. Engage First, Sell Later

Before promoting your products or services, take time to establish yourself as a valuable community member. Engage by:

  • Joining discussions: Respond to members' questions or comment on discussions with insights that add value.
  • Sharing helpful content: Post articles, case studies, and industry reports that can help others solve problems. Ensure the content is relevant to the group.
  • Offering advice: Share your expertise in a helpful and non-promotional manner.

  • You can join up to 100 LinkedIn groups.
  • You can post in up to 20 LinkedIn Groups a week.
  • You can message anyone in a LinkedIn group, even if they are not a first connection.

There are no limits to how many people you can message in your LinkedIn groups. HOWEVER, admins of a group themselves are limited to 50 direct messages to group members per week! Any group members seen to be spamming will be kicked out...

  1. Use all of the 100 LinkedIn group joining limit. You may not be accepted to all and are allowed to have 20 'pending groups' so utilise this feature too ensure you use your full 100 quota.
  2. Find groups that your target customers will be in, you can do this by checking out which groups potential clients or existing ones are using!
  3. Go the a client/ potential clients LinkedIn profile scroll to the bottom and click on the groups button, here you will see a list of all groups they are following and you can select the best ones for you to join!
  4. Once your membership is confirmed - Post 2-3 times a week and actively engage in other posts, webinars, events, polls etc.
  5. After a few weeks of this practice, you can start to direct message group members.
  6. Message 15 people directly per week in each group. That's 150 messages per week for free to ideal customers that aren't in your network!
  7. Make the initial contact either content related or something useful to share, think free advice, industry relevant news etc. Do not just go in selling, this approach will likely fall flat and get you banned from the group.
  8. Start to navigate through users within LinkedIn Groups to grow your network, once you have engaged with people in the groups, add them to your personal network with an invite request. The side bar on the group home page shows you how many many members there are, if you click on this it gives you a list with photos, names title's and company names of all members!
  9. You get 100 LinkedIn add's per week! If you use the LinkedIn Group members as a guide, that's 5200 ideal customer profiles that could be 1st connections with you on LinkedIn in as little as 12 months!
  10. JUST DO IT! This method will work for finding your ideal customer easily and engaging them via a channel that most other users aren't using, its an absolute no brainer!


If you do this right it will drive business and ensure success! So get 'grouping', you don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great!
