The Ultimate AI Weekend

This has got to be the ultimate weekend of all time where most of us are torn between an unprecedented tech drama and the Cricket World Cup match.
From Sam Altman getting fired from OpenAI (that too on Google Meet), to top researchers leaving the company, and Microsoft being stuck in limbo, to investors pressuring the board to Altman’s return, the drama is just getting started.
With people mostly aghast with the turn of events around the world’s hottest AI company, tech investors and founders have come forward to express their disdain, and praise Altman’s outstanding competence.
Interestingly, amidst this chaos, Indian businessman and investor Ashneer Grover came forward to express his solidarity to Altman by not only pulling parallels to his case, where he too was ousted by his board members, but comparing himself to some of the greatest founders in tech history. The result was miserable. (PS: He has deleted all of his older tweets).?
On a sad note, India lost the World Cup finals. But, Google Bard is still optimistic, where it predicted (or rather hallucinated) the victory of the Indian cricket team by ten wickets, led by Rohit Sharma (101) and KL Rahul (97).?
OpenAI Drama Continues?
Altman and his other board member, Greg Brockman, are unlikely to rejoin OpenAI. Interestingly, Altman already knew he was going to get fired from the very beginning if things took a turn for the worse.?
It is also interesting to note that Mira Murati is no longer the interim CEO, as she has been replaced by Emmett Shear.?
Looks like Murati is on Altman’s side. Coincidentally, yesterday when Altman posted on X, saying: “i love the openai team so much.”?
Murati replied it with a blue heart.?
It all began on a Friday night when Altman got a text from Sutskever asking to talk. Altman joined the Google Meet call alongside the whole board, except Brockman. Altman was fired on the call and told that the news would be out soon.?
Soon, Brockman too received a Google Meet link from Sutskever. He was asked to step down from the board and also made aware of Altman's ghastly firing. To his surprise, around the same time, OpenAI published a blog post about the leadership update. Brockman, in a post on X, said that the management was made aware of this shortly after, however, Murati got to know about this the night before.?
Looks like there is no end to the OpenAI soap opera.?
