The Ultimate 2023 Goal-Setting Formula For Spiritual Entrepreneurs

When we set goals, it can sometimes feel like we are fighting against our base instincts, trying to quell our subconscious.

This roaring ego becomes like a lion that keeps us away from what we are trying to accomplish. However, this way of thinking actually limits our ability to take action.?

It’s true that your subconscious mind and your ego exist to keep you safe, and that they view change as a threat. If we can bypass that fight or flight response, we can utilize all that power to our benefit. Let’s take a look at some ways we can tame our subconscious and put all of that energy toward creating the ideal version of ourselves.?

Approaching The Lion's Den

As we look at these questions and learn how to utilize the power of our minds, we want to keep everything in perspective. Remember the aspects of your life that you can improve.?

  • Spirituality
  • Romance
  • Community
  • Family
  • Health
  • Personal
  • Business

We’re also going to add Contribution to this list because as we grow in our spiritual callings, we will have more space and means to give back to our community. It may be monetary gifts or volunteering your time, but no matter where you are, there is something you can offer.?

As you go through the following questions, attempt to answer them in light of each of these areas. Maybe one or two stand out to you as the most important for this season in your life, but that will change over time. Especially as we look to your ideal future, know that all eight will be a part of your journey.?

Make sure you give each question its due time. Actually, take out a pen and paper and answer them in writing. This will activate your mind and keep you accountable for the answers.?

No matter what, this is not about shame. We get caught up in these things without knowing it because that is the nature of the subconscious. You can not improve your state of mind until you are aware of it. Think of this as a process of meeting your subconscious and, through care and understanding, beginning to form a bond that will eventually tame it.?

Laying with the Lion

Use these questions to get to know your subconscious, and see what areas you can be focusing on to achieve your goals.?

Question One: If I already had everything I currently want, what would I want then?

One of the main reasons that our subconscious fights against us making progress is that it needs to be clarified about where we are going. When we think about our current goals as the be-all-end-all of our lives, we can’t actually see what would happen after.?

A millionaire doesn’t sit around and think, “I want to be a millionaire.” They already accomplished that goal and now have new things that they are working toward. We need to give our mind the data it needs by telling it, “after we get x, y, and z, this is where we’ll go.”?

There’s a balance that needs to be upheld. On one hand, we often don’t get specific enough about our incremental action steps. On the other, we don’t think big enough to take us to the next level. If the next thing you do is the last in your life, why would your mind and body be in a rush to get there??

Permit yourself to imagine bigger. Your imagination is the most powerful tool in the world. Everything is created twice, once in the mind and once in reality. The majority of the things we manifest we do subconsciously, so why not start using that power to your advantage??

Building an idea of what you aren’t yet allowing yourself to hope for will either make your current goals easier or happen faster. They aren’t the biggest goal anymore, so your mind allows you to have them.?

Question Two: What kind of person will I be when I succeed? How can I be that person now??

People get caught up in who they will be once they complete their goals. You might say, “I’ll feel confident when I look like that,” “I’ll be happy when I have that relationship,” or “I’ll live stress-free once I have the money.” This keeps us from becoming the person who can pull our goals in.?

Next time you are in a quiet and meditative place, plan to have tea with your future self. Imagine the home you will have in five years, and the type of person you will become. This is a way to tap into your higher self.?

Keeping the eight domains in mind, write down how this future version of you would describe their life. To become that person in the present, you need as many details as possible.?

Discover how they walk, how they talk, and what they eat. What are their habits? If the future idealized version of you is waking up at five in the morning every day, but you sleep in until eight, you’re going to want to start working to close that gap.?

As you write, use the present tense as much as possible. You can use the formula “I’m so happy and grateful now that I…” For example:?

  • I’m so happy and grateful now that I am in the happiest, most aligned relationship of my life
  • I’m so happy and grateful now that I have the most goal-aligned business teaching my dream clients
  • I’m so happy and grateful now that I am confident and secure in who I am?
  • I’m so happy and grateful now that I am debt free and working toward my financial goals

One of the keys to journaling is to do it in the present tense because your subconscious mind has no sense of time. You can leverage this beautiful, infinite field of potential by understanding these rules.?

Question Three: What else do I have control over besides my actions??

Take time to write out everything you have control over. This will allow your brain to make the connection next time you’re having a negative reaction to something. You can not control something you’ve forgotten about. Some examples include:?

  • Who you’re around
  • Your relationship
  • Your attitude
  • Your thoughts?
  • Your mindset
  • Your actions

Question Four: What do I know that I need to address in my life that I’m ignoring??

This is a big one. We all have something we aren’t paying as much attention to as we should. To avoid getting caught up in a shame spiral, focus on just one thing to start. Some things you might be avoiding dealing with are:?

  • An unhealthy relationship
  • A job you can’t stand
  • Being afraid to look at your bank account
  • Not wanting to look in the mirror?

The problem is, we don’t want to take ownership or accountability for what scares us. Our subconscious has us convinced that if we don’t look at something, it will go away or take care of itself. This is simply not true.?

Pain is inherent to the process of turning our attention to what we’ve been ignoring. We must be willing to go into the fire. It is designed to burn down everything that isn’t really you, and it’s where we make contact with God and the Universe.

When you are willing to act with faith and courage to address what you’ve been avoiding, you will not be disappointed.?

How long this process takes depends on how long you’ve been avoiding it, or how much of a blessing you will find on the other side. Sometimes the Universe has plans for us that are so big, they require us to develop more confidence and competency through trials and tribulations. Don’t give up. It will be worth it to know what is coming.?

Question Five: Am I willing to accept the same reality a year from now??

Be honest with yourself. Sometimes the answer to this question is yes, and that’s ok. However, if the answer is no, and you’re not doing anything to move towards that, you need to start that journey.?

To discern your true motivations, ask yourself why you want to reach your goals. If it’s because of an external factor, like what others may think of you, or a fear of failure, the odds are that you won’t make significant progress.?

But if your motivation comes from a deep-seated desire for self-improvement and growth, then there is nothing stopping you from achieving success.?

Question Six: Has my life changed measurably from a year ago? Five years ago? Has it changed in the direction I want it to??

These are the questions that can help you assess your progress. If the answer is no, then it may be time to take a step back and get clear on where you want to go in life.

Many influencers in the spiritual space will try to sell you on the idea that by simply wanting things in the right way, you will receive them. This isn’t true. Everything is going to take effort, and if you aren’t putting in that effort, you aren’t going to get far.??

The point is not to spiral or feel bad. It’s about acknowledging where you are. You can’t hire someone to help you with your finances and not be honest about where you are currently. Getting in touch with your subconscious and manifesting your goals is the same.?

Question Seven: What do I believe is keeping me stuck??

Don’t overthink this one. Write down the first thing that comes to mind. Remember, the goal is to tap into our subconscious.?

Ultimately, your sticking point is going to be something that you yourself are doing. Bad things can come to us. We can have trauma and baggage and extenuating circumstances, but at the end of the day what matters is what we are doing or not doing to heal from that. No one can take on the job of healing for us.?

Question Eight: Are my environments and relationships a help or hindrance to my goal??

Everything in your life is either positive or negative. There is no such thing as natural. Even if it’s just a little bit of a difference, nothing is ever keeping you exactly the same. It will serve you much more to consciously label everything as bringing or taking light.?

Write out a list of all the people that you deal with; friends, family, relationships, teammates, and clients. You’ll know right away whether they’re bringing or taking light. If someone is taking light from you, you don’t necessarily need to cut them out of your life, but putting boundaries in place can keep you from getting caught up in their negative energy.?

You also want to honor the spaces in between. We are never in a constant state of upward motion. Plateaus will come, but that’s a part of life’s journey. If you fall into fear, that might be a longer part of the journey, but it doesn’t have to be.

If we can find the strength and momentum to continue working even when we don’t see the results, we’ll get through to the other side.?

There are a few reasons why people fail when it comes to their goals. They may have unrealistic expectations about constant growth, or maybe they don’t put enough effort into them. You can also get stuck on your path if your identity and vibration don’t match what you want.?

You need to take conscious steps towards having a higher vibration. This includes looking at any trauma or difficulties you haven’t worked through yet, taking stock of your habitual thoughts and emotions, and being intentional about what you put into your body.?

Question Nine: What is one new thing I will adopt as a result of what I’ve learned??

It is not enough to simply ask yourself these questions and get to know your subconscious. You need to be actively working with it to make progress. Pick one actionable goal that you want to work towards. Some ideas for goals are:??

  • Be more gentle with yourself
  • Have a different relationship with the plateaus in life
  • Take more action on your business
  • Know that things you ignore won’t magically go away
  • Be less reactive
  • Address your fears

To practice successful goal setting, once you know what you hope to achieve, come up with something you can physically do to make that happen. For example:?

  • Start eating healthier
  • Address an issue in your relationship
  • Post more content
  • Include more calls to action in your business?
  • Set up a therapy appointment?

You want to connect a new understanding to a new behavior.? That’s how to get lasting results.?

Final Thoughts...

Big goals are accomplished through lots of small steps. Every time you put in the work to get to know your subconscious and let it show you what it needs, you’ll get closer to becoming the powerful, spiritually driven professional you were made to be.

As you set goals and strive towards them this year, don’t leave your most powerful ally behind. Using these questions and exercises, you’ll be able to mobilize your inner mind and create the reality you desire.
