Ukrainian Government Launches Training Project for Women in Male-Dominated Professions

The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers, in a session held on November 15, made a significant move to promote gender equality in the workforce by approving a project aimed at training women in professions typically dominated by men. This initiative, announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, is set to pave the way for Ukrainian women to access vocational training in over 30 male-dominated professions, with the training expenses covered by the state.

This groundbreaking program is designed to address workplace gender disparities by equipping women with the skills required for professions where they have historically been underrepresented. Employers, facing acute skill shortages in certain areas, stand to benefit from this initiative by having access to a new pool of trained professionals. A key feature of the project is that training will be provided at the request of employers, who are then committed to hiring the women upon completion of their training.

Some of the professions included in the program are tram and trolleybus drivers, forklift drivers, program-controlled machine operators, milling operators, and renewable energy system installation and maintenance technicians. To facilitate this training, employers are required to reach out to the employment center, which will then manage the arrangement, allowing participants to select their preferred educational institution from an approved list.

The funding scheme allows for training costs up to a ceiling of 10 times the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons, currently standing at 30,280 UAH. Should the costs exceed this threshold, the excess must be covered by either the employer or the participant.

Yulia Zhovtyak, the Director of the State Employment Service, highlighted the service's commitment to integrating women into the labor market and dismantling prevailing gender stereotypes. The employment service's previous efforts have already yielded positive outcomes, with significant numbers of women employed and trained in various fields, including those traditionally dominated by men, such as machine and crane operations. Zhovtyak underscored the importance of diverse workforce participation, noting its beneficial impact on Ukrainian economic growth and overall societal well-being.

This initiative represents a strategic step by the Ukrainian government towards achieving greater gender balance in the workplace, fostering diversity, and addressing the skills gap in the labor market.

I've been subscribed to your message for a long time. I would be happy to take advantage of the forms of training for Ukrainian women in the professions of visualization and design in CAD 3D. For the benefit of the organization of a Polish-Ukrainian company, which during the war could train or even design in my studio with accommodation and future mutual benefits.
