Ukraine is slowly paying the price for electing a comedian; What is the way out for the US and Europe from here?
Volodymyr Zelensky is an isolated man now, almost. The man hailed as a hero just a few months ago is now on the verge of losing everything, his power and the geographical territory of his country. In 2019, when he stormed to power, he was seen as a darling of the masses, a change agent who is out there to change the world. After 5 years, the mask is off and what is staring at the people of Ukraine is a never-ending hardship of losing a war, a ruined economy, and a country that would never be the one, which it was 5 years ago.
What was the mistake of Zelensky?
The list is a bit long, but if we look at the costliest mistake he has ever made, that was his unnecessary outburst and argument at the White House a week ago. Zelensky knew that he was going to face a hostile Trump and Vance combo. They are definitely not like Biden and Harris who were over-sympathetic to the cause of Ukraine. Unlike Biden, Trump likes Putin and they share an equation. So, Zelensky is not going to be in Trump's good books.
The whole meeting of Trump and Zelensky happened against the backdrop of the minerals deal with the US. America wants a deal to compensate for whatever money it had spent on Ukraine through rare earth minerals found in Ukraine. Zelensky was unwilling. Trump got aggressive. If Zelensky had played mind games, he should have remained calm and composed. Instead, he got on with an argument with Vance first and then Trump. Trump did not like it. He was put in place and was shown the door unceremoniously. All this while the whole world is watching.
Europe can hardly compensate for the loss of America
With this act of Zelensky, Ukraine lost the support of the US, forever. Europe pitched in, but it can hardly compensate for what the US did. For example, the US gave aid of 65 billion dollars to Ukraine while the entire European Union of 27 countries put together gave just 52 billion dollars. This is apart from the military equipment that the US supplied. Europe itself depends on the US and NATO for military support, so there is nothing that they can give to Ukraine, other than empty words and meaningless handshakes and hugs.
Is Trump right in dumping Ukraine?
Absolutely, yes. America has no stake in the war in Ukraine and it is the internal matter of Russia and Ukraine, who before 1991 were together. The Cold War ended more than 3 decades ago and the deep state of Soros, Clinton, and Obama should come out of that Cold War mindset. China is a new threat now and the global order is changing, NATO is a body created to protect Europe from the Soviets and when the Soviet Union itself disintegrated, is NATO really needed? NATO now is being used by Europe for American military support and why should America protect Europe?
What is the way out for Europe then?
Europe should understand that it neither has the military might nor the economic might. Barring Britain, France, and Germany, none of the 25-plus European nations can protect themselves in case of an attack. They all depend on America and why should America help them? Secondly, all the economic power that Europe enjoyed in the last century is a thing of the past now. First China overtook them and now India has overtaken every European nation except Germany. So, in the changed scenario, Europe will become a weak link and will be prone to attacks.
I say this because, for the last 50-plus years Europe never bothered about its security and has become too liberal. It feels that war in the 21st century is only limited to Africa and Asia and Europe is insulted. But the liberal immigration that it allowed in the last 50 years is coming to haunt it now and haunt it very badly. Europe has to prepare for internal conflicts and civil wars and even an attack on it if this conflict escalates into a full-fledged WWIII. Europe has no other option but to build a strong military for itself.
Is America on the right path?
More or less, yes. America is shedding all its extra baggage. It need not protect Europe or Canada. It needs to become stronger to take on China. It needs to keep China friendless, by keeping Russia and India neutral. Trump understands this and he is working in that direction. That is why he is giving concessions to Russia so that it stops depending on China. The big mistake Biden made in this war was to isolate Russia and support Ukraine. Ukraine is too insignificant in the bigger scheme of things, Russia is not. By isolating Russia, Biden pushed Putin closer to China. Trump wants to reverse that. Ending BRICS would be a major step towards that direction.
What will happen to Zelensky and Ukraine then?
Soviet Union was never a democracy and when it disintegrated in 1991, Ukraine was carved out and it was made to follow democracy. A country, that never had a democratic culture, if democracy was thrust on them, can it be a successful democracy? The answer is No. That's why since 1994, there has been no political party system in Ukraine. There was only one party, a left-centered party that survived. All others are either independents or parties being formed just before elections as an experiment.
In 2014, Ukraine elected an independent President. Then in 2017, Zelensky jumped into politics after being a stand-up comedian on TV and started a party called Servants of People. The name itself speaks volumes. But the people of Ukraine fell for it and in the 2019 elections, he stormed to power getting nearly 75% votes. Zelensky is a total novice and thus Putin planned and attacked Ukraine in 2022. He had scant respect for the likes of Zelensky who just came to power based on the left ecosystem.
Imagine a stand-up comedian in India like Munnawar Farooqi Ranbeer Allahbadi or Samay Raina who contests the elections to become the prime Minister. This has happened in Ukraine and that is why Trump hates Zelensky. Putin used him, Trump hates him. Since the deep state and Europe supported him to win, so they didn't have an option but to continue supporting him. This is the mistake that Ukrainians made and they have to pay heavily for that. Unless there is a regime change and unless a good leader with some vision takes over, Ukraine's future is in the dark.
