UKGCC's ongoing trade mission promotes business opportunities in Ghana and Northern Ireland
On Day 1 of the UKGCC’s ongoing trade mission to Northern Ireland, our delegates participated in the Ghana-Northern Ireland Business Seminar. The event highlighted the business and investment opportunities in Northern Ireland (NI) and how Ghanaian businesses and government agencies could tap into it to explore possibilities of mutually- beneficial trade relationships.
Speaking at the seminar, Lady Hoey of Lylehill & Rathlin, Baroness – UK Trade Envoy to Ghana, delivered a message on behalf of the UK Government and Ghana. She touched on our historical relationship and her strong ties to Ghana, the UK-Ghana Trade relations and the business opportunities available in both countries.
Papa Kow Bartels, Head of Trade & Investment at the Ghana High Commission in London, in response to Lady Hoey’s welcome remarks, highlighted the trade and investment opportunities available in Ghana and how NI could benefit from this strategic relationship.
Delivering an introductory message on behalf of UKGCC, Linda Wayoe, UKGCC UK Advisory Board Member, emphasised how the UKGCC is well positioned to help businesses who come into the country seeking business opportunities.

Joseph Obeng, President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), in his message, presented an overview of Ghana’s investment climate, sector opportunities, established trading partnership between the UK and Ghana, challenges in the relationship and the proposed solutions going forward.
Rounding up the day’s presentations, Elaine Curran, Head of Exports at Invest NI, highlighted the main opportunities available for doing business in NI. Her presentation included a historical overview of NI, the trade and investment climate in the region, and a detailed look at the key sectors of the region and the opportunities available.
